Patent number: 5393859Abstract: Organopolysiloxanes in which two polysiloxane chains are bonded via a divalent radical can be obtained by reaction of cyanuric halides with organopolysiloxanes which contain primary amino groups in substituents. The divalent radical contains 1,3,5-triazine rings, to which a halogen atom is still bonded. The organopolysiloxanes thus obtained are suitable for soft handle treatment of fiber materials. In particular, textile sheet-like structures which comprise cellulose fibers can thereby be given a soft handle and improved permanence of the treatment effects with respect to washing processes.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1994Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventors: Michael Bernheim, Harald Chrobaczek, Michael Messner

Patent number: 5310783Abstract: Stable, low-viscosity dispersions of polysiloxanes containing amino or amido groups can be obtained, even at comparatively high concentrations and/or pH values, by adding a product of the formulaR1--CH(X)--Y--O--R2(R1 is H, CH.sub.3 ; X=OH, NH.sub.2 ; R2=C.sub. -C.sub.4 -alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted by OH or OR3; R3=C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted by OH) to the dispersions. The dispersions are suitable for the treatment of fiber materials, especially textiles, to which a soft handle is thereby imparted.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1992Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventors: Michael Bernheim, Harald Chrobaczek, Gunther Tsuchida

Patent number: 5214121Abstract: Diols containing perfluoroalkyl radicals are produced by reacting compounds of the formulaR.sub.f --(E).sub.m --X'--H(R.sub.f =perfluoroalkyl radical, E is an alkylene group optionally interrupted by certain groups and/or substituted at the end, m=0 or 1, X'--H=--CONRH, --SO.sub.2 NRH or --SH) in a first step with diols containing at least 2 halogen atoms. Preferably the obtained products are reacted in a second reaction step with polyvalent isocyanates to prepolymers with free --NCO-- or free --OH--groups and these prepolymers are reacted in a third step with compounds containing isocyanate groups and/or hydroxyl groups. The first reaction step is carried out in an aprotic solvent which is insoluble in water, in the presence of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal carbonate. Intermediate products have not to be isolated. The obtained polyurethanes can be used in form of aqueous dispersions for the oil- and water repellent finishing of textiles.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1991Date of Patent: May 25, 1993Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventors: Franz Mosch, LuSimpert, Michael Bernheim

Patent number: 5196260Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the treatment of fibrous materials with modified organopolysiloxanes, wherein, in an aqueous medium, an organopolysiloxane copolymer prepared in a first stage from customary cyclic siloxanes (A) and unsaturated silanes (B) in the presence of a crosslinking agent and emulsifier (1) is copolymerized in a second stage with at least one vinyl monomer in the presence of emulsifiers (2), and the resulting dispersion of the modified organopolysiloxane copolymer is applied to the material in the customary manner and the material is dried and subjected to condensation. The process has the advantage that the materials, in particular textiles, treated by the process, above all coated by the process, have very good waterproof properties and at the same time good to very good water repellency. However, the materials are simultaneously distinguished by a pleasant soft handle, without the degree of whiteness thereof being noticeably impaired.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1992Date of Patent: March 23, 1993Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventors: Franz Dirschl, Jurgen Uhl, Michael Bernheim
