  • Patent number: 11954079
Abstract: The meta data containing count and key fields of CKD records are reversibly decoupled from the user data of the data field so that the data can be deduplicated. Multiple CKD records may be coalesced into a larger size CKD track. The coalesced meta data is compressed and stored in a CKD hash table. The user data is hashed, and the hash is used as a hash key that is associated with the compressed meta data in the CKD hash table. When the hash of user data associated with a CKD write IO matches the hash key of an existing entry in the table, data duplication is indicated. The compressed meta data is added to the entry and the user data is deduplicated by creating storage system meta data that points to the pre-existing copy of the user data. The storage system metadata includes unique information that enables the corresponding compressed metadata to be subsequently located in the hash table to reassemble the CKD records.

  • Patent number: 9003398
Abstract: A method to install software by receiving a partially linked version of the software including a plurality of code modules, randomly ordering the code modules, assigning non-volatile memory addresses for the software and generating an executable image of the software. A system to install a software application having a partially linked object code version of the software application including a plurality of code modules and an installation program configured to randomly order the code modules, assign non-volatile memory addresses for the software, and generate an executable image of the software, wherein the installation program performs the ordering, assigning, and generating on a target computing device that is different from a development computing device that partially linked the software application.

  • Patent number: 8200734
Abstract: Computing the Q and the P syndromes, which is needed in RAID 6 systems is effected through use of a single ROM lookup table for the necessary finite field multiplication. In one embodiment, the P and Q syndromes for data that normally arrives with 8-bit words are created by using Galois Field GF(24) arithmetic rather than the conventional GF(28) arithmetic, thereby very significantly reducing the requires size of the lookup table.

  • Patent number: 8095729
Abstract: A plurality of disk drives in a disk drive array are synchronized. A synchronization signal is generated at a master disk drive. The synchronization signal is encoded as a radio frequency signal for transmission over a radio frequency network in communication with the plurality of disk drives. The transmitted radio frequency signal is received at a slave disk drive and decoded to recover the synchronization signal. Rotation of a disk in the slave disk drive is synchronized with rotation of a disk in the master disk drive based on the recovered synchronization signal.

  • Patent number: 8086556
Abstract: A process for evaluating and geocoding of GIS data elements utilizes a plurality of “locate” tests and a weighting scheme to express the match results as a multidimensional vector. Multiple inputs and data sources, as well as ambiguous and partial input data, are used to generate an output with improved precision by applying a weighting function to each input element and generating a set of test vectors (i.e., in the input data element weighted by the known accuracy of the element/source). A sum of a plurality of tests is then generated as the “characteristic vector” of the test set. By using two (or more) different sets of tests, two (or more) characteristic vectors are formed. Various well-known algebraic techniques can then be used to evaluate the results of each set of tests and select the “best match” result.

  • Patent number: 7949825
Abstract: Disk drives are synchronized by a timing signal generated in a master disk drive. The timing signal is transmitted over a power distribution network common to the disk drives. A slave drive receives the timing signal and synchronizes at least one disk based on the timing signal.

  • Patent number: 7930586
Abstract: A RAID 6 system, which has two strips to hold redundant data, employs a memory array controller that at each “read” operation considers not just the data but also the redundant information, even in the absence of any indication from the collection of memory controllers associated with the hard drives that any error condition exists. Thus, with each “read” operation the array controller checks the data for an unreported error, and takes corrective action when an error condition is discovered.

  • Patent number: 7912839
Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating a non-uniform index structure for data are disclosed. For example, the method sets at least one threshold for at least one of: a number of objects in a cell, or a maximum number of decompositions for a cell. The method creates a plurality of cells by overlaying a grid over a plurality of objects and decomposes each of the plurality of cells until either the maximum number of decompositions is reached, or the number of objects in each cell is below the at least one threshold for numbers of objects in a cell. The method then creates a key for each cell, and creates an index structure for the data using said key for each cell.

  • Patent number: 7898940
Abstract: Method, system and computer-readable medium for handling a dig ticket to mitigate physical cable damage are disclosed. In accordance with the method, a network alarm indicating a logical circuit is received. The logical circuit is mapped to at least one physical cable segment associated with the logical circuit. One or more other physical cable segments diversity of which is affected by the at least one physical cable segment are determined. The diversity associated with the one or more other physical cable segments is updated. The dig ticket is processed based at least on a risk factor that accounts for the diversity of at least one physical cable segment of the one or more other physical cable segments.
