  • Publication number: 20140110207
Abstract: A one-way clutch, including an inner race and a wedge component with first and second tapered outer partially circumferential surfaces. The clutch includes first and second outer races including respective tapered inner partially circumferential surfaces. For rotation of the outer races, with respect to the inner race, in a first direction, the outer races are axially aligned and separated by a space in an axial direction, the first and second tapered outer partially circumferential surfaces and the respective tapered inner partially circumferential surfaces are at least partially aligned in radial and axial directions and are free of contact. For rotation of the outer races, with respect to the inner race, in a second direction, opposite the first direction, the first and second tapered outer partially circumferential surfaces contact the respective tapered inner partially circumferential surfaces and the first and second outer races are non-rotatably connected to the inner race.

  • Publication number: 20140014455
Abstract: A one-way clutch, including: an inner race including a first outer circumference with a first plurality of ramps and at least one wedge plate including: a first inner circumference with a second plurality of ramps; a second outer circumference; and a first plurality of slots: passing through material forming the at least one wedge plate in an axial direction; including respective first ends open to the second outer circumference; and including respective second ends radially outward of the first inner circumference and enclosed by the at least one wedge plate. The one-way clutch includes an outer race including a second inner circumference. The outer race is able to rotate with respect to the inner race in a first circumferential direction. Rotation of the outer race in a second circumferential direction, opposite the first circumferential direction, causes the rotation of the outer race to lock to rotation of the inner race.

  • Publication number: 20140014454
Abstract: A one-way clutch, including: a plurality of first ramps with respective first face surfaces orthogonal to an axis of rotation or forming a first acute angle with the first line. The clutch includes at least one wedge plate including a smooth second outer circumference and a first inner circumference with a plurality of second ramps with respective second face surfaces orthogonal to the axis of rotation in the radial direction or forming a second acute angle with the second line. The clutch includes an outer race including a second inner circumference. The outer race is rotatable with respect to the inner race in a circumferential direction. For relative rotation of the outer race in the direction, at least one, but not all, first face surfaces is in contact with second face surface. Rotation of the outer race in an opposite circumferential direction locks the inner and outer races.

  • Publication number: 20090159390
Abstract: The present invention is a friction one-way clutch that may be used with automotive components such as a stator in a torque converter. The clutch includes a circular outer race attached to the stator, a flat wedge ring having at least one wedge and fit into an inner perimeter of the outer race to form an interference fit with the outer race. The interference fit is formed by a wedge angle between the inner perimeter of the outer race and the outer perimeter of the wedge ring. An inner race with at least part of its outer edge formed by one or more tapered ramps fits into the inner circumference of the wedge ring. The inner race is attached by splines to a stator shaft. The components of the clutch are positioned so that if they are turned in one direction, the friction between the components will prevent the stator from continuing to turn in that direction. If the components are turned in the opposite direction, the stator is allowed to turn freely.
