  • Patent number: 6017082
Abstract: A truck trailer body system has an elongated cargo-supporting bed with front and rear bulkheads and sliding nestable rigid enclosure sections, called canopies, which are movable between the bulkheads. The canopies are positionable for completely enclosing and protecting cargo from environmental damage during transportation or storage, and also for selectively providing largely unfettered access to the cargo for any purpose, such as inspection, loading, and unloading, as desired. The enclosure sections or canopies ride on roller mechanisms for movement along tracks extending along either side of the trailer bed over its entire length. The individual canopy sections, when unlocked, slide relatively freely along the length of the tracks. Locking systems are provided to secure the canopies in a fixed position on the trailer so as to prevent unwanted movement, and to prevent them from decoupling from one another.
