  • Patent number: 5263440
Abstract: An intake manifold 10 for a V-type internal combustion engine includes a first set of runners 12 feeding a first group of cylinders of the engine, a second set of runners 14 feeding a second group of cylinders of the engine, a first airbox 16 connected with and supplying air to the first set of runners, and a second airbox 18 connected with and supplying air to the second set of runners, with a communicating orifice 22 formed through a common wall which interconnects the airboxes, and further with a vacuum driven poppet valve 24 for controlling flow of air through orifice 22. The valve is preferably packaged as a cartridge and is inserted through an outer wall of one airbox.

  • Patent number: 5255659
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve has a gas force balancing diaphragm which equalizes the gas pressure forces acting upon the valve's metering element so as to minimize the force required to position the metering element, which is operated by an external actuator.

  • Patent number: 4693226
Abstract: A self contained EGR system consists of a spacer insertable between the intake manifold and the cylinder head of an automotive type engine, the spacer including air/gas flow passages each aligned with an intake manifold runner and a cylinder head intake port, and a corresponding number of EGR gas distribution passages at least partially surrounding each air/gas flow passage with controlled size inlet ports between the two passages for passage of EGR gases into the intake ports, and an EGR valve to control the flow of EGR gases, the valve being mounted on the spaces.

  • Patent number: 4484551
Abstract: An air-air/fuel throttle body is provided with a secondary throttle valve of a differing diameter and operating in a different cross-sectional area of the throttle body induction passage, the upstream throttle valve being positively connected to the vehicle accelerator pedal to assure a like opening or closing movement of the latter throttle valve upon movement of the accelerator pedal, the construction assuring that main control of the flow of air and changes in manifold vacuum will be retained by the lower smaller diameter servo operated throttle valve operating in a smaller cross-sectional area.

  • Patent number: 4248193
Abstract: FIG. 1 schematically shows a fuel control system for a fuel injected engine. The system includes two vacuum control circuits, essentially identical in valve structure. One circuit controls the recirculation of exhaust gases into the engine intake manifold 14 and a change in engine ignition timing in response to engine throttle valve 34 angle by a regulator 310, in response to changes in engine temperature by a signal reducer 312, and in response to engine load by a manifold vacuum sensitive valve 314. A second circuit controls the engine fuel injection pump fuel flow rate as a function of changes in throttle valve angle by a valve 420, engine temperature levels by a valve 422, and load levels by a valve 424 to adjust an engine air/fuel ratio controller 52 to maintain either a base air/fuel ratio or air/fuel ratios as called for by the particular engine operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4208995
Abstract: FIGS. 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, and 1e collectively schematically illustrate a fuel injection control system for an internal combustion engine having a fuel pump 38 that has a fuel flow output that varies as a direct function of engine speed, an air/fuel ratio controller 100 that has a mechanical linkage that varies the output of pump 38 as a function of changes in engine intake manifold vacuum acting on an aneroid 122 to maintain a constant air/fuel ratio to the engine mixture charge, and a linkage type regulator with five vacuum controlled motors 156, 170, 178, 186 and 190, that modify the position of the regulator 100 in a step-wise progressive and sequential manner to establish exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and to change fuel flow to compensate for the change in oxygen concentration in the mixture charge due to EGR flow and other engine operating conditions as well as engine operating temperature changes.
