Patent number: 11761609Abstract: Disclosed is a luminaire such as an LED downlight which is suitable for mounting in ceiling cavities of commercial environments. An example luminaire (200) comprises a light source (202) including an integral primary optic which is configured to transmit light toward a second optic (214). The second optic (214) is a lens configured to receive light from the light source (202) via the primary optic and transmit at least part of the received light toward a circular reflector (201). The circular reflector (201) is configured to direct light received from the second optic (214) away from the luminaire (204). A shape of the second optic (214) is interdependent with a shape of the circular reflector (201), and the shape of the second optic (214) and circular reflector (201) act in combination to transmit light away from the luminaire with a non-circular illuminance distribution (206).Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2020Date of Patent: September 19, 2023Assignee: FORGE EUROPA LTDInventors: Michael Christopher Worgan, David Gavin Scott-Maxwell, Richard Peter James Barton

Patent number: 7025484Abstract: The invention concerns a light source utilizing an array (20, 50) of light emitting elements (22). The elements may be light emitting diodes. A fresnel prism (32, 56) is disposed in front of the array to receive light from it. The prism serves to divert light from the array along a direction (28, 54) oblique to the array, the diverted light forming an output beam. The array has a depth. The output beam from the prism has a depth which, measured in the same plane as the array depth but perpendicular to the beam direction, is smaller than the depth of the array. Hence a deep array provides a shallower output light beam in a manner which is convenient with regard to packaging requirements.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2003Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignee: Oxley Developments Company LimitedInventors: Timothy George Bushell, Michael Christopher Worgan

Patent number: 6870325Abstract: An LED drive circuit is disclosed, comprising an electronic controller which is arranged to monitor LED current as a first input. The controller also receives a second input from a sensor associated with the LED. The controller serves to monitor, based on its inputs, at least one further operating parameter of the LED which is either LED junction temperature or LED luminous intensity. The further operating parameter may be directly sensed by the sensor or may be calculated from the inputs to the controller. The controller is adapted to implement a closed loop control on LED current and to thereby limit current as necessary to maintain both the LED current and the further operating parameter below predetermined maximum values.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2003Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: Oxley Developments Company LimitedInventors: Timothy George Bushell, Michael Christopher Worgan
