  • Patent number: 5314691
Abstract: Plant pathogenic fungi belonging to the genus Phytophthora such as phytophthora cinnamomi which causes root rot in plants is biologically controlled with strains of fungi belonging to the genus Myrothecium. Preferred strains of Myrothecium are Myrothecium roridum ATCC 20963, 20964 or 20965. An inoculum containing Myrothecium and a substrate such as bran or a branalginate mixture is added to the surface of a plant or to soil. The Myrothecium may be grown on the substrate 5 to 7 days before use of the inoculum.

  • Patent number: 4220550
Abstract: Sulfide-containing scale is removed from metal surfaces by contacting the encrusted surface with an aqueous acid cleaning solution having an aldehyde (e.g., formaldehyde) dissolved or dispersed in the acid in an amount sufficient to prevent the evolution of hydrogen sulfide gas.

  • Patent number: PP6627
Abstract: A new and distinct rootstock variety of avocado tree characterized by its high yield resistance to Phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi. This variety has a high level of resistance comparable to the `Duke 7` rootstock variety. It is also characterized under some field conditions by producing a somewhat smaller tree, when grafted with a `Haas` scion, than that typical of a `Duke 7` rootstock.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 1987
Date of Patent: February 21, 1989
Assignee: The Regents of the University of California
Inventors: Michael D. Coffey, Fred B. Guillemet
  • Patent number: PP6628
Abstract: A new and distinct rootstock variety of avocado tree characterized by its high field resistance to Phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi. This variety has the highest level of resistance of any rootstock currently identified. It is characterized by relative ease of propagation using the etiolation method and graft compatibility with commercial scion varieties, including `Hass`, `Gwen` `Pinkerton`, `Fuerte`, `Bacon` and `Zutano`.
