  • Patent number: 4228136
Abstract: A lens case for use with a dry heat sterilizer unit, or the like, wherein said sterilizer unit includes a substantially flat heated support surface with the lens case supportable thereon in intimate surface-to-surface heat conductive contact. The lens case is substantially flat and includes shallow, cup-like base and cover sections. The lens case base section includes separate, lens supporting arrangements for receiving a pair of lenses, said lens support arrangements being provided in side-by-side relation. The lens case is designed to be positioned on said support surface of said sterilizer unit only in an inverted position, i.e. with the cover engaged with said heated support surface, and said lens support arrangements inverted, which serves to prevent overheating of the lenses. Further, the cover member for the lens support arrangements, include central apertures, which permit the lenses to be engaged during opening of said covers, to preclude said lenses from adhering to said cover members.

  • Patent number: 4220253
Abstract: A hinge structure is disclosed for hingedly joining a cover or lid member with a base or housing member of an overall unit, such as a control lens disinfector, or the like. The base or container member carries, in opposing side wall portions, a pair of coaxial, axially spaced cylindrical bores or apertures, while the cover member carries, in opposing side wall portions, a pair of coaxial, axially spaced and oppositely outwardly extending rod-like pins or pintle members. The axial spacing of these pins or pintles is similar to that of the bores or apertures of the base member. A pair of slots or openings are provided in an end wall of the cover member, being generally adjacent the confluences of the respective side walls with the end wall, one such slot being disposed immediately axially inwardly of each of the pin or pintle members. Advantageously, the slots provide for resilient movement of the side wall portions of the cover member adjacent the pin or pintle members.

  • Patent number: 4200187
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a lens case for supporting a pair of contact lenses in a liquid solution to be heated to an elevated temperature for effecting sterilization or disinfecting of the lenses. The lens case includes a generally cylindrical open ended container for housing the liquid, a cap for closing the open end of the container, and a lens holder arrangement for supporting the lenses to be sterilized. The cap includes means for supporting the lens holder and the lenses confined therein emersed within the liquid. Further, said cap includes a circumferential downturned annular flange that forms a recess within the cap to provide an air pocket and an area which provides an expansion chamber for the liquid. More specifically, upon assembly of the cap to a filled container, the air pocket will displace excess liquid from the container as the cap is assembled in place.

  • Patent number: 4178932
Abstract: There is disclosed a device for performing medical procedures such as curettage, or the like, employing the use of an evacuated vessel, a cannula or similar form of medical implement and a valve arrangement for selectively applying the vacuum to the cannula. An improved vacuum indicator is included within the vessel for providing a positive visual indication as to the presence or absence of an acceptable vacuum level therein. In addition the disclosed embodiment includes a vial or the like for the collection of tissue samples within the vessel, a cover structure for the vessel including a shoulder for engaging the inner periphery of the vial and one or more resilient fingers in concentric arrangement with the shoulder for positively engaging a complementary flange or shoulder formed about the outer periphery of the vial.

  • Patent number: 4179051
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a one-piece check valve for use in an applicator tip for fluid substances, or the like, comprises a reed portion and a valve seat portion and an interconnecting integral hinge section, permitting the respective portions to be folded over and engaged in superposed relation. Further, the valve includes a flange segment also preferably formed in halves adjacent the inlet sections of the reed and seat portions. The respective portions are molded as an integral unit, and upon assembly, the respective reed and valve seat portions are folded over at the hinge portion so that the reed portion seats on the seat provided by the valve seat portion, and the flange segment halves abut to form a valve inlet and an abutment shoulder extending outwardly of the inlet for engaging complimentary retaining shoulders, flanges or the like of the applicator or other fluid carrying device.

  • Patent number: 4165359
Abstract: A sterilizer or aseptor for contact lenses and the like is disclosed, which provides a capsule adapted to both carry and sterilize a single set of contact lenses. The sterilizer includes a well adapted to receive the capsule, and when the well is heated, sterilizing action occurs within the capsule. A cover is locked into a closed position to prohibit access to the capsule and well when the well is heated to an elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 4157600
Abstract: A hinge assembly for pivotally joining a cover or lid member with a base or housing member, or the like. The cover member includes a pair of coaxial and inwardly facing rod-like pivot members which are axially spaced apart and project from the lid or cover member. The base or container member includes a receptacle arrangement, including an elongate locking slot and a pair of arcuate grooves formed at either end, the grooves generally defining segments of a tubular hinge knuckle for receiving the rod-like pivot members. A locking member is employed to maintain the cover in articulate assembly, said locking member comprises a base or frame segment slidably insertable in the elongate locking slot, and having a pair of fingers extending outwardly of opposite sides of the base or frame segment, each said finger having arcuate inner surface portions defining generally segments of a tubular hinge knuckle.

  • Patent number: 4146055
Abstract: There is disclosed a valve comprised of a valve body defining a cavity with inlet and outlet port means opening to and leading from said valve cavity. A plug member is rotatably disposed in said valve cavity and spaced from the bottom wall thereof to define a valve chamber, with the outlet port means leading from said chamber. The plug member includes an end segment disposed in said valve cavity and provided with a pair of concave, axial elongate surface portions opening to the end face of said segment, with said concave portions being separated by convexed surface portions. The concaved surface portion cooperates with the inner wall surface of the cavity to define a pair of relatively movable channels which can be placed in communication with the inlet port means to interconnect said inlet ports with the valve chamber. The segment of the plug disposed in said valve cavity is constructed from a resilient material, and of a slightly larger diameter than the valve cavity.
