  • Patent number: 7392951
Abstract: A reader such as a barcode reader identifies at least one potential target such as a barcode symbol in its field-of-view, and projects or transmits an indicator toward or proximate the potential target containing information about the respective potential target. Such information may include which target is currently active, the symbology in which the target is encoded, the relative position of the reader with respect to the target, the ability of the reader to decode the target, and/or ranked or sorted order information regarding the target and neighboring targets. The reader may rank, sort, prioritize or otherwise determine order based on various parameters, including symbology, position in field-of-view, size, etc., and may base such on past history of the reader and/or user, and may weight such.

  • Publication number: 20070164112
Abstract: Electromagnetic energy comprising a visible component and non-visible component is emitted from a reader, wherein the emitted visible component that is emitted forms a pattern indicative of a position of the reader with respect to a target. A portion of the emitted electromagnetic energy is returned from the target and received by the reader. A visible portion or component of the received electromagnetic energy is optically, computationally and/or electrically filtered and a non-visible portion or component is processed to resolve and/or decode the symbol. Additionally, or alternatively, a detector substantially detects only the non-visible portion or component of the electromagnetic energy returned from the symbol.

  • Publication number: 20070084926
Abstract: An automatic data collection device is provided for reading barcodes, matrix codes, stacked codes, or other machine-readable symbol. The data collection device generates an aiming beam that serves a dual purpose of target locating and data acquisition, such as data acquisition using imaging methods. The aiming beam defines the field of view of the data collection device for imaging. The illumination pattern provided by the aiming beam for imaging can have its shape, size, and/or intensity adaptively changed depending on conditions.

  • Patent number: 7139870
Abstract: A method of operating a device having at least one solid-state memory and at least one spinning media memory for storing data includes from time-to-time, determining whether the device is in motion; and in response to determining that the device is not in motion, transferring frequently accessed data between the spinning media memory and the solid-state memory. An apparatus for use with a device includes at least one solid-state memory; at least one spinning media memory; and a controller configured to transfer frequently accessed data between the spinning media memory and the solid-state memory when the device is not in motion.

  • Publication number: 20060213995
Abstract: A system and method of detecting a barcode involves obtaining a two-dimensional source image and converting it into a frequency domain image (FDI). Frequency trends in the FDI are then analyzed to determine whether barcode information is present in the FDI. In this way, the presence, location, orientation, size and symbology of a barcode can be quickly and accurately determined.

  • Publication number: 20050274806
Abstract: A reader for reading machine-readable symbols such as barcode, area or matrix code, or stack code symbols employs an aiming beam which may continue to provide an indication of an orientation of a field-of-view of the reader for a set interval following a successful decode of a machine-readable symbol. This provides a more intuitive and efficient user interface, allowing a user to quickly aim at a next symbol to be acquired, without inadvertently acquiring and/or decoding an unintended symbol. This may also reduce the number of user actions required to operate the reader, and may simplify the triggering mechanism interface.
