  • Patent number: 11838691
Abstract: An illumination system is disclosed, and such system may include a first light modulator (14) that modulates the phase of beamlets of light and generates phase modulated Gaussian beamlets of light (ABC), a light distributor (18) that transforms, the Gaussian beamlets of light to a homogenized rectangular pattern of light, and a second light modulator (56) that utilizes the phase modulated light to form an image.

  • Publication number: 20220383770
Abstract: A literacy development device includes a light source that provides a general white illumination area and an adjustable light within the illumination area, both from the same light source. The adjustable light can be changed in shape and color through a LCD screen provided within the device. The device contains a rechargeable battery and various buttons for changing functions, light parameters, and other controls. The device is preferably usable in teaching applications, especially with children and other students with learning and/or attention issues. The device is useful in drawing attention to certain areas of a surface that includes written language, including a letter, a group of letters, a word, or a sentence, through use of the adjustable light to highlight, underline, or otherwise draw visual attention to a particular area of the surface within the illumination area.

  • Publication number: 20020149852
Abstract: Various projection systems are described with improved performance. A projection system utilizes negative distortion together with a pre-compensated light source to reduce spill. A projection system utilizes a single angle transforming optical element positioned between an imager and a light source to increase throughput. A two panel projection system utilizes both polarities to increase light output. A projection system utilizes a three segment color wheel with a small white bias in each segment to reduce color breakup. A projection system utilizes a digital micro-mirror device and recycles OFF state light. A projection system utilizes two color wheels to improve recycling of light. A two panel projection system utilizes a color wheel which transmits a deficient color band and time sequences the other bands while reflecting the unused light back to the light source for recycling.

  • Publication number: 20020126392
Abstract: A projection system includes a light source, a deformable micromirror device (DMD) having a plurality of mechanical mirrors which pivot about respective tilt axes, and an anamorphic optical system disposed in between the light source and the DMD along an optical path, the anamorphic optical system providing a higher magnification along a first axis and a lower magnification along a second axis orthogonal to the first axis, wherein the first axis is aligned perpendicular to the tilt axes of the mirrors. The light source may have a pre-distorted shape which corresponds to the shape of the DMD as imaged through the anamorphic optical system. For example, the light source has the shape of a parallelogram.

  • Publication number: 20020101191
Abstract: An electrodeless microwave discharge lamp includes a substantially sealed microwave cavity, an envelope disposed within the sealed cavity, the envelope containing a fill which emits light when excited by microwave energy, and means for circulating air inside the sealed microwave cavity. For example, the means for circulating air includes a ceramic reflector inside the cavity with defined air flow channels. The lamp may further include a fan for moving air through the defined air flow channels. For example, the envelope is adapted to rotate during operation and blades are mounted on the stem of the bulb inside the sealed cavity. A sealed light distribution system includes a hollow light pipe having an opening at one end and an annular ring of elastomeric material secured to the open end of the light pipe. When used with a lamp with a reflector, the reflector is received in the opening of the ring and the ring forms a seal around the outside of the reflector.
