Patent number: 9317762Abstract: Face recognition training database generation technique embodiments are presented that generally involve collecting characterizations of a person's face that are captured over time and as the person moves through an environment, to create a training database of facial characterizations for that person. As the facial characterizations are captured over time, they are will represent the person's face as viewed from various angles and distances, different resolutions, and under different environmental conditions (e.g., lighting and haze conditions). Further, over a long period of time where facial characterizations of a person are collected periodically, these characterizations can represent an evolution in the appearance of the person. This produces a rich training resource for use in face recognition systems. In addition, since a person's face recognition training database can be established before it is needed by a face recognition system, once employed, the training will be quicker.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2014Date of Patent: April 19, 2016Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Harshavardhana Narayana Kikkeri, Michael F. Patent number: 9189091Abstract: Techniques for enabling software-assisted assignment of control of peripherals (e.g., assigning ownership of or assigning access to the peripherals) by a computing device. In accordance with techniques described herein, assignment of control of peripherals is aided by input from software facilities that instruct a peripheral management facility regarding assignment of peripherals. Software facilities may instruct the peripheral management facility in different ways. In some cases, a software facility may instruct the peripheral management facility how to assign control of a peripheral in a particular way, while in other cases a software facility may instruct the peripheral management facility how to assign control of a group of peripherals. In other cases, a software facility may not instruct a peripheral management facility how to assign control of peripherals, but may identify one or more groups of peripherals for which control should be assigned as a group.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2013Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Michael F. Patent number: 8954330Abstract: The subject disclosure is directed towards detecting symbolic activity within a given environment using a context-dependent grammar. In response to receiving sets of input data corresponding to one or more input modalities, a context-aware interactive system processes a model associated with interpreting the symbolic activity using context data for the given environment. Based on the model, related sets of input data are determined. The context-aware interactive system uses the input data to interpret user intent with respect to the input and thereby, identify one or more commands for a target output mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2011Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Michael F.
