  • Patent number: 11240319
Abstract: A Service Continuity Network Function (SCNF) may be used to provide service continuity support in IoT networks such as 3 GPP and oneM2M, whereby higher layer session and service information is associated with transport layer session information. By means of the SCNF, a higher layer service may be resumed when a new session or connection is created, without support for transport layer session continuity. The service continuity capabilities of the SCNF may be exposed to the service layer of the network by way of a resource data structure.

  • Patent number: 11240212
Abstract: Existing approaches to security within network, for instance oneM2M networks, are limited. For example, content might only be protected while the content is in transit between entities that trust each other. Here, the integrity and the confidentiality of content in an M2M network are protected. Such content may be “at rest,” such that the content is stored at a hosting node. Only authorized entities may store and retrieve the data that is stored at the hosting node, and the data may be protected from a confidentiality perspective and an integrity perspective.

  • Publication number: 20220030084
Abstract: A mapping service in the mobile core network located after a packet data network gateway examines content requests from user equipment across a first PDN connection to determine if content associated with the content request is cached at an edge server outside of the packet data network. If the content from the packet data network is cached at the edge server, the mapping service redirects the user equipment to request the content from the edge server across a second PDN connection. By using a mapping service located after the packet data network gateway, the content requests may have already passed restrictions such as parental controls.

  • Patent number: 11234213
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed to propagate announcement and de-announcement of a resource across one or more networks. A first entity, which may be a hosting service capability layer (SCL), may receive a request from an issuer to announce a resource. The first entity may create a representation of the resource. The representation may be referred to as an announced resource. The first entity may send an announce resource request to a second entity (e.g., an announced-to SCL), which may be registered with the first entity. The announce resource request may be sent over an mId interface. The first entity may receive a first response from the second entity over the mId interface indicating that the second entity created the announced resource.

  • Publication number: 20220022029
Abstract: Cellular devices are becoming more and more powerful, and may host a number of different non-cellular capabilities, such as cameras, accelerometers, and sensors. Today, these capabilities are used mainly to provide some service to the device or the device owner. Disclosed herein are methods and systems for enabling devices to register their device capabilities with a cellular network, providing a mechanism for Application Servers to discover non-cellular capabilities of the devices, providing a mechanism to have the Application Servers configure these non-cellular capabilities of the devices, and preparing the device and the network for cellular traffic generated as a result of the Application Server using these non-cellular capabilities.

  • Patent number: 11228959
Abstract: Mechanisms for efficient inter-system or inter-RAT handover for the case when large numbers of devices need to perform a handover within a short time interval or even simultaneously are described. These mechanisms can include an aggregated Handover Procedure. An Aggregated Handover procedure can be enabled by a UE and can be indicated to the network entities by “Aggregated Handover Indication”. The detection of target (H)eNB or WLAN can be triggered by user, GPS location, boarding time, or a travel or eTicket application etc. The UEs requesting Aggregated Handover within a time interval, i.e. Handover Window, can be processed with aggregated messages by the core network entities.

  • Publication number: 20210409948
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems related to serving gateway extensions for inter-system mobility in integrated small Cell and WiFi networks. An SGW may be extended into a common intermediate gateway for both LTE and WiFi access. A GTP-based “SI a” interface between a TWAN and an SGW is introduced. The STa interface between TWAN and 3 GPP AAA server/proxy is extended to enable selection of an SGW for establishment of the disclosed Sla interface. The extended SGW and protocols may be used to optimize inter-system mobility between LTE small cells and trusted WiFi. SGW and PDN Gateway (PGW) functionality is disclosed to support GTP-based IP Flow mobility via multi-access (LTE and WiFi) connectivity to the same packet data network (PDN). Non-access stratum (NAS), EAP, and GTP-C protocols may also be extended to include a “multi-connection” indication in addition to existing “handover” indication.

  • Publication number: 20210400574
Abstract: User equipment may be provisioned with information used to determine whether to send data via a user plane or a control plane. The information may be a management object comprising rules or polices, or uplink rate control information, for example. The user equipment may then respond to conditions autonomously, e.g., in response to congestion. An application or a service layer on user equipment may receive control plane/user plane (CPUP) selection policies. The application or service layer may then apply the CPUP selection policies to uplink traffic in determining whether uplink traffic should be sent over the user plane or control plane.

  • Publication number: 20210400448
Abstract: A discoverer user equipment sends a discovery announcement to a discoveree user equipment via a sidelink service. The announcement includes criteria for a service sought by discoverer. The discoveree assesses the announcement and may respond to the discoverer. The discovery announcement may be a target search discovery announcement or a self-advertisement discovery announcement, and may be unicast, groupcast, or broadcast. The discoverer and discoveree may perform synchronization in support of V2X sidelink communication and may collect driving information pertaining to vehicles associated with the discoverer and discoveree, respectively, such as driving intention, positioning, and environment information. The discoverer may request an authorization for the discovery announcement, and the request may include the driving information.

  • Patent number: 11190438
Abstract: IoT twinning groups can be dynamically created. These twinning groups can be activated based on selected triggers. As part of twinning operation, service delivery can be re-directing away from the primary device to the IoT twinning group. Messages originating from members of the IoT twinning group can be processed and forwarded externally as if they came from the primary device. Further, the twinning service can be de-activated based on selected triggers.

  • Publication number: 20210328997
Abstract: Current discovery mechanisms lack capabilities, such as capabilities related to permissions associated with a given registrant for example. In an example embodiment, a registrant of a service layer can communicate with a network node that hosts the service layer. The network node may receive a discovery request for a resource from the registrant. The discovery may request include various context. For example, the context of the discovery request may be indicative of an operation that the registrant intends to perform on the resource, a role that the registrant intends to assume if the registrant accesses the resource, a location in which the registrant intends to access the resource, or a subscription plan that the registrant intends to use if the registrant accesses the resource. Based on the context of the discovery request, the network node may determine whether one or more resources at the service layer satisfy the discovery request.

  • Publication number: 20210321257
Abstract: Multi-RAT UEs currently have 2 independent paths to authenticate with HSS (e.g., via the MME or the 3GPP AAA Server causing repeated authentication messages to HSS). The use of one unified authentication path between the UE and HSS for Small Cell and Wi-Fi authentication is described. First, a new 3GPP EPC-TWAN interworking architecture has the MME manage all the authentication requests from multi-RAT UEs. Second, new unified authentication procedures are added, which allow the ISWN-based multi-RAT UE to be authenticated directly with the HSS, irrespective of its current access network (TWAN or HeNB). Third, new fast re-authentication procedures for Inter-RAT handover scenarios are done. Finally, the needed extensions to the various standard protocol messages to execute the authentication procedures are described.
