  • Patent number: 6250867
Abstract: A binder assembly system, without a metal spine but only paper or paper-like material at its channel spine (15), for binding together a series of sheet materials (20), using an “hard cover” book-like, single-piece binding cover (10), made up of a number of main, structural parts, including two, side boards (11A & 11B), a sheet (12) of book covering material, and a centrally located, special paper spine element (13), with an internal, paper cover (14) which over-lies the combined width of the side boards and the paper spine element, all of which when combined together form the book-like binder cover using pre-heating and forming step(s). The various cover parts are pre-assembled together in their respective positions. The channel area of the cover is first pre-heated to facilitate forming in the range from about one hundred and fifty to four hundred (˜150-400) degrees Fahrenheit and dwell times from about two to about thirty (˜2-30) seconds.

  • Patent number: 6145385
Abstract: A construction and a method for measuring the clamping force exerted by a fastener securing together two bodies. The construction includes a piece of material the same as that of a first of the bodies and a stack of at least two pieces of the same material as the second body. The overall height of the stack is equal to the thickness of the second body. A fastener secures all the pieces together. By measuring the force required to move a piece of the stack relative to the other pieces of the stack, an indication of the force exerted by the fastener is provided.

  • Patent number: 5808139
Abstract: Non-steroidal compounds which are high affinity, high specificity ligands for progesterone receptors are disclosed. The compounds include synthetic derivatives of cyclocymopol and its diastereomers, spectroscopically and chromatographically pure (3R)-cyclocymopol monomethyl ether, which functions as a progesterone receptor antagonist, and spectroscopically and chromatographically pure (3S)-cyclocymopol monomethyl ether, which functions as a progesterone receptor agonist. Also disclosed are methods for employing the disclosed compounds for modulating processes mediated by progesterone receptors and for treating patients requiring progesterone receptor agonist or antagonist therapy.

  • Patent number: 5798073
Abstract: A mold assembly includes first and second housings having generally curved surfaces inside the mold cavity. The first housing has apertures extending therethrough. The second housing may have apertures, axially aligned with the apertures of the first housing, extending partially or completely therethrough. At least one guided, flexible, elongated rod member is configured for reception in the apertures of the first and second housings, the rod members being movable in a direction non-parallel to a direction of movement of the mold assembly with respect to the rod members. The mold-assembly is particularly useful for forming a molded body having a plurality of apertures, aligned in arbitrary non-parallel directions relative to one another, extending therethrough.

  • Patent number: 5535061
Abstract: An apparatus positions a rotary drum having an axis of rotation in an image scanner having a frame to position an image source mounted on the rotary drum. A way is mounted to the frame. A headstock and a tailstock are disposed and arranged to receive and support the rotary drum and are independently mounted on the way for lineal movement along the axis of the drum. A drum drive device rotates the drum about the axis and a headstock drive device linearly moves the headstock along the axis in first and second opposite directions. A stop block is supported by the frame and impedes a linear movement of the tailstock in the second direction at a selected stop position.
