  • Patent number: 10293680
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to reduce the overall weight of a rear differential cooling system of a motor vehicle. The apparatus includes a body panel system. That body panel system includes (a) a rear diffuser, having a front air inlet, (b) an underbody panel, overlying the rear diffuser as well as (c and d) first and second air tunnels formed between the rear diffuser and the underbody panel, and (e) a rear valance, including first and second vent openings for discharging air received from the first air tunnel. A heat exchanger is provided between the air tunnels and the vent openings. A related method for improving weight distribution and reducing overall weight of a rear differential cooling system is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6871620
Abstract: An internal combustion engine arrangement 7 with a variable cam timing unit pressurized oil supply arrangement 49 is provided. A first pump 44 delivers oil through a first check valve 62 to a VCT unit 83 and additionally provides oil to the engine lubrication system. A second oil pump 104 provides pressurized oil to the VCT unit 83 through a second check valve 106. An accumulator 114 is connected between the first 62 and second 106 check valves to pressurize oil delivered to the variable cam timing unit 83.

  • Patent number: 6782856
Abstract: An accumulator 114 is provided in an engine 7 camshaft 73 having at least one lobe and an internal cavity 170. A compliance member 174 is provided for pressurizing the fluid within the internal cavity 170.

  • Patent number: 6675764
Abstract: An oil feed system for an internal combustion engine with a variable camshaft timing mechanism includes a bracket attached to the front structure of the engine at a final location which is determined in part by the interaction of the bracket and the camshaft adjuster to which it is furnishing oil. An oil feed spud which engages the adjuster will be ablated when the engine is initially operated, so as to provide a running clearance between the VCT mechanism and the oil supply spud, while the same time allowing piloting of the oil supply spud within the variable camshaft timing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6631700
Abstract: An arrangement 7 of a dual oil feed variable timed camshaft is provided. The arrangement includes a camshaft 10 which has a radial side 22 and an end face 26. The camshaft 10 has first and second passages 30, 42 fluidly connecting end face 26 with the radial side 22. A hub 60 is connected with camshaft end face 26. The hub 60 has a central opening 68 intersecting with the first and second passages 30, 42. The hub 60 has at least first and second axial spaced radial passages 80, 82 intersecting with the hub central opening 68. A timing pulley 90 has relative rotational movement with respect to the hub 60. The timing pulley 90 and the hub 60 define pressure chambers 104 which are divided by vanes 88 into retard angle spaces 108 intersecting with the hub first radial passages 80 and advance angle spaces 112 intersecting with the hub second radial passage 82.
