Patent number: 11865658Abstract: A system for reprofiling a wheel set of a railway vehicle allows the center of rotation of the wheel set to move relative to supporting rollers. A cutting tool used to reprofile the wheel profile on a wheel set is moved relative to the center of rotation of the wheel set to maintain a constant distance between the center of rotation and the cutter. The rollers are maintained in a fixed position during the cutting process. The system avoids mechanically forcing a constant location of the wheel set relative to the center of rotation.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2023Date of Patent: January 9, 2024Assignee: NSH USA CorporationInventors: Michael H. Chu, James G. Otton, Eric S Butler

Publication number: 20210407080Abstract: Cell identification and classification is a well-known problem in the pathology domain that help identify microenvironments. In addition to the characteristic of each cell, its interactions with the neighboring regions or other cells is also important. This involves correct identification of neighboring elements and analytically representing the interactions between them. This disclosure presents a system that combines many such features, some hand engineered and some machine derived through training of Deep Learning algorithms that can be used to study the microenvironments.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2021Publication date: December 30, 2021Inventors: Evan Szu, Nishant Borude, Nivedita Suresh, Michael H. Patent number: 7062419Abstract: A system and method are provided for compressing a graphical representation that describes the appearance of an object from a plurality of viewing directions. Compressing includes accessing the graphical representation, removing redundant descriptive information from the graphical representation using sign consistent matrix factorization and approximation techniques, and representing the remaining information for efficient rendering, such as rendering with hardware-assisted computation.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2001Date of Patent: June 13, 2006Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Radek Grzeszczuk, Jean-Yves Bouget, Michael H. Patent number: 6919889Abstract: A technique for compactly representing the surface radiance characteristics of an object based on acquired images of the object includes calculating surface radiance functions, which are then partitioned, based on a mesh topology, into vertex radiance functions. The vertex radiance functions are then reparameterized, on a vertex-by-vertex basis, to local coordinates systems. The reparameterized vertex radiance functions, which may be six-dimensional, are then decomposed into a plurality of lower dimensional functions that may be compactly stored.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2002Date of Patent: July 19, 2005Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Radek Grzeszczuk, Alexey Smirnov, Michael H. Patent number: 6909807Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for compressing an image matrix by partitioning the image into overlapping sub-blocks, weighting each sub-block, and performing a decomposition of the weighted sub-blocks into a weighted sum of vector outer products, such as a singular value decomposition. Compression is provided by representing the image matrix by a subset of the scalar weights and associated vectors used in the decomposition. Embodiments of the present invention provide for synthesizing an image matrix by performing weighted sums of vector outer products based upon the subsets of scalar weights and associated vectors obtained during compression to provide synthesized sub-blocks, and overlaying and summing the synthesized sub-blocks to provide the synthesized image matrix.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2001Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Michael H. Chu, Radek Grzeszczuk, Jean-Yves Bouguet

Patent number: 6906714Abstract: A technique for accelerated visualization of surface radiance characteristics of an object based on acquired images of the object includes selecting a vertex of a mesh component for which surface radiance is to be visualized and determining texture coordinates for the selected vertex based on the lighting point and the view point. Surface, light and view maps associated with the texture coordinates corresponding to the selected vertex of the mesh component are then recalled and a decoded reflectance function is decoded therefrom by combining the surface, light and view maps. A color of the selected vertex is then combined with the combination of the surface, light and view maps.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2002Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Radek Grzeszczuk, Alexey Smirnov, Michael H. Patent number: 6788809Abstract: A system and method for recognizing gestures. The method comprises obtaining image data and determining a hand pose estimation. A frontal view of a hand is then produced. The hand is then isolated the background. The resulting image is then classified as a type of gesture. In one embodiment, determining a hand pose estimation comprises performing background subtraction and computing a hand pose estimation based on an arm orientation determination. In another embodiment, a frontal view of a hand is then produced by performing perspective unwarping and scaling. The system that implements the method may be a personal computer with a stereo camera coupled thereto.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Radek Grzeszczuk, Gary R. Publication number: 20030001862Abstract: The present invention describes a procedure designed to reduce artifacts full-frame animations are taken and converted for use on an interlaced display (such as NTSC televisions). Each frame of animation is rendered at four times video resolution (1440×960 for video at 720×480) and twice temporal resolution (120 frames per second). Each frame is then resized with bicubic interpolation to 720×480 to produce smooth antialiased frames. Every pair of frames is then frame blended together to form one frame with motion blur. A gaussian blur of 0.2 pixel radius is applied to each frame and, finally, odd fields from each odd frame are interlaced with even fields from each even frame. The resulting video is smooth with minimal aliasing artifacts.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2001Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventors: Michael H. Chu, Jean-Yves Bouguet, Radek Grzeszczuk

Patent number: 5945870Abstract: Various embodiments for controlling a ramp rate of a high voltage generator circuit such as a charge pump circuit are disclosed. In one embodiment the ramp rate of the output signal is controlled by modulating an amplitude of the oscillating signal at the input of the charge pump circuit. In another embodiment, the ramp rate is controlled by modulating the current loading at the output of the charge pump circuit. In yet another embodiment, the ramp rate of the output signal is controlled by modulating the frequency of the oscillating signal at the input of the charge pump circuit.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1997Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Altera CorporationInventors: Michael H.
