  • Publication number: 20190032582
Abstract: A dual-fuel internal combustion engine with at least one combustion chamber, wherein the at least one combustion chamber is assigned to an intake valve for a gas-air mixture and an injector (I1 to I4) for liquid fuel, and a control device, which is designed in a switch-over mode to perform a switch-over, that an amount of energy supplied to the at least one combustion chamber through the gas-air mixture is changed, and a supplied amount of liquid fuel and/or a time of the injection of the liquid fuel is changed, and a combustion sensor whose signals are characteristic for the combustion process occurring in the at least one combustion chamber, wherein the control device is designed to carry out the switch-over using a stored relationship between a time progression of the signals of the combustion sensor and an introduced amount of gas-air mixture.

  • Publication number: 20180355816
Abstract: A dual-fuel internal combustion engine including at least one combustion chamber. The at least one combustion chamber is paired with an inlet valve for a gas-air mixture and an injector for liquid fuel. The internal combustion engine also includes a regulating device which is designed to carry out a switchover in a switchover mode such that a quantity of energy supplied to the at least one combustion chamber by a gas-air mixture is changed, and a quantity of energy supplied to the at least one combustion chamber by the liquid fuel and/or the time of the injection of the liquid fuel is changed. The regulating device is designed to carry out the switchover on the basis of a current load of the dual-fuel internal combustion engine, wherein the regulating device is designed to select an excess air coefficient of the gas-air mixture in the switchover mode, the coefficient being larger than a target excess air coefficient in a pilot operation.

  • Publication number: 20160146073
Abstract: A variable valve gear for adjusting inlet or exhaust valves of at least two cylinder banks of an internal combustion engine comprising a camshaft carrying cams, at least two pushrods for the transmission of a profile of the cams into a translatory movement for the actuation of inlet or exhaust valves, wherein a rotatable adjusting member is provided between the outside contour of the cam and the pushrod, wherein the actuating times of the inlet or exhaust valves on the at least two cylinder banks can be synchronously altered by rotation of the adjusting member.

  • Patent number: 9194327
Abstract: A system includes a reciprocating engine having a cylinder liner having an inner surface that defines a cavity and multiple slots disposed along a portion of the inner surface. The reciprocating engine also includes a piston disposed within the cylinder liner and configured to move between a first position and a second position. The reciprocating engine further includes a first ring disposed about the piston beneath a top land of the piston. The first ring, the top land, a first ring groove of the piston, and the inner surface of the cylinder liner define a top land cavity. The reciprocating engine also includes a second ring disposed about the piston below the first ring and a second land of the piston. The first and second rings, the second land, a second ring groove of the piston, and the inner surface of the cylinder liner define an interring cavity.
