  • Publication number: 20200182308
Abstract: An adjustable armature assembly (100) comprises an armature hub (300) configured to couple to a shaft, the armature hub (300) comprising a cover side and a plate side. An armature plate (400) can be movable with respect to the armature hub (300), the armature plate (400) comprising at least one pin-receiving hole (460), the pin-receiving hole (460) positioned to face the plate side of the armature hub (300). A spring assembly (500) can couple the plate side of the armature hub (300) to the armature plate (400). A control pin (650) can be mounted in the pin-receiving hole (460), the control pin (460) comprising a control pin head extending out of the pin-receiving hole (460). The armature plate (400) is configured to irreversibly walk out away from the armature hub (300) when the armature assembly (100) is engaged.

  • Publication number: 20080045383
Abstract: A control system and method for an electromagnetic clutch brake, including an electromagnetic clutch brake actuator coil surrounding a power input shaft for a multiple-ratio transmission in a vehicle powertrain. A protective circuit of the control system normally monitors data inputs from a databus that may indicate conditions that are not favorable for clutch brake actuation. The protective circuit prevents actuation of the clutch brake under such conditions. In the event the data inputs are not available from the databus, the protective circuit permits operation in a fall-back mode in which a brake ON timer is checked prior to clutch brake actuation. A primary counter is incremented with each normal clutch brake actuation and a secondary counter is incremented with each fall-back clutch brake actuation.

  • Publication number: 20070293369
Abstract: A control system and method is disclosed for an electromagnetic clutch brake, including an electromagnetic clutch brake actuator coil surrounding a power input shaft for a multiple-ratio transmission in a vehicle powertrain. A protective circuit of the control system normally monitors data inputs that indicate conditions that are not favorable for clutch brake actuation. The protective circuit prevents actuation of the clutch brake under such conditions. The protective circuit may monitor a plurality of signals including a vehicle speed signal which prevents engagement of the clutch brake unless the vehicle speed is below a predetermined level. The system may further include a transmission neutral switch that permits bypassing monitoring the vehicle speed signal when the transmission neutral switch is actuated.

  • Publication number: 20070095625
Abstract: An electromagnetic brake for an input shaft of a vehicle transmission is disclosed. The brake includes an armature separated from an electromagnetic coil pole face by a controlled air gap. A spring release feature ensures precise armature disengagement when the brake is deactivated. A wear compensation feature maintains uniformity of the air gap.

  • Publication number: 20060243572
Abstract: A clutch assembly having a master cylinder that includes non-contacting position switches is disclosed. The master cylinder controls a slave cylinder that shifts the release bearing of the clutch system. A cruise control interrupt switch and an ignition system interlock switch are disclosed. The switches may be Hall effect or other non-contacting switches.

  • Publication number: 20060154788
Abstract: A control system for an electromagnetic brake, including an electromagnetic brake actuator coil surrounding a power input shaft for a multiple-ratio transmission in a vehicle powertrain. An electromagnetic flux flow path for the actuator coil is electromagnetically isolated from the power input shaft and other elements of the powertrain thereby avoiding residual magnetization. A thermally responsive circuit protector is provided in the coil circuit that senses the temperature of the stator coil to avoid overheating of the stator coil. An overcurrent protector is provided for opening the stator coil circuit when current in the stator coil exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20050155832
Abstract: A clutch brake is provided that includes a brake housing adapted to be non-movably secured relative to a driveline master clutch. The brake housing includes a through-hole sized to allow passage of a shaft and at least one source of magnetic flux. The clutch brake also includes an armature secured for rotation with the shaft and positioned axially adjacent the brake housing in a disengaged state. At least a portion of the armature is adapted to move axially on the shaft in the presence of magnetic flux to contact the brake housing in an engaged state and inhibit rotation of the armature and the shaft.
