Patent number: 11960131Abstract: Described herein is an integrated photonics device including a light emitter, integrated edge outcoupler(s), optics, and a detector array. The device can include a hermetically sealed enclosure. The hermetic seal can reduce the amount of moisture and/or contamination that may affect the measurement, analysis, and/or the function of the individual components within the sealed enclosure. Additionally or alternatively, the hermetic seal can be used to protect the components within the enclosure from environmental contamination induced during the manufacturing, packaging, and/or shipping process. The outcoupler(s) can be formed by creating one or more pockets in the layers of a die. Outcoupler material can be formed in the pocket and, optionally, subsequent layers can be deposited on top. The edge of the die can be polished until a targeted polish plane is achieved. Once the outcoupler is formed, the die can be flipped over and other components can be formed.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2022Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Inventors: Michael J. Bishop, Vijay M. Iyer, Jason S. Pelc, Mario J. Costello

Patent number: 9055407Abstract: A system and program of instructions for generating and utilizing a database of driving trip data and event data to identify drivers by mobile devices during a driving trip, comprising identifying a driver, determining a driving trip based on driving trip data, identifying device usage events associated with the driver, determining a driving context for the driver based on the driving trip, the usage events and context data, filtering the usage event data associated with the portable electronic device based on the driving context to create a set of risk events that occurred during the trip, and taking some action based on the set of risk events. The usage event data includes phone calls, text and other forms of messages, emails, applications, and other usage information, including usage associated with third party sources, each of which occur during the operation of a motor vehicle during a trip.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2011Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Assignee: Mykee Acquistions L.L.C.Inventors: Michael S. Riemer, Michael J. Costello, Matthew J. Howard

Patent number: 7360425Abstract: A method for constructing a compensated composite structure, including a support tube coupled to a flexure plate and enclosing a capacitor plate, includes selecting a material for the support tube whereby the coefficient of expansion is larger than that of the material of the capacitor plates. Further, the method includes selecting the lengths of the support tube and the capacitor plate such that the composite structure is insensitive to changes in temperature.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2004Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Ray F. Campbell, Joan D. Wada, Michael J. Costello, Mohsen A. Khatiblou

Patent number: 7331229Abstract: An accelerometer system includes a capacitor plate fixed within a housing and a flexure plate positioned substantially parallel to the capacitor plate a distance therefrom. The distance varies in response to acceleration forces acting upon the flexure plate such that the flexure plate and the capacitor plate generate a capacitance signal. A magnet is coupled to the flexure plate and generates a magnetic field, which moves as the flexure plate flexes. A coil winding around the flexure plate generates a second magnetic field as a function of capacitance signal, thus opposing the flexure plate magnetic field, and thereby returning the flexure plate to a null position.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2004Date of Patent: February 19, 2008Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Ray F. Campbell, Joan D. Wada, Michael J. Costello, Mohsen A. Khatiblou
