  • Patent number: 10751973
Abstract: A composite fabric laminate can include an open mesh fabric, a first continuous film comprising a fluoropolymer, and a second continuous film comprising a fluoropolymer. The fluoropolymer of the first continuous film and the fluoropolymer of the second continuous films can be in direct contact with one another. A method of forming a composite fabric laminate that includes disposing an open mesh fabric between a first continuous film and a second continuous film, each comprising an at least partially unsintered fluoropolymer film, to form a composite; laminating the composite at a pressure of at least 100 psig and a temperature of no greater than 350° C.; and sintering the laminated composite to form the composite fabric laminate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 2017
Date of Patent: August 25, 2020
    Assignee: SAINT-GOBAIN PERFORMANCE PLASTICS CORPORATION
Inventors: Joseph G. Sargent, Michael P. Cushman, Michael J. Lussier, James M. McMartin

  • Patent number: 8859102
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a barrier structure including a fluoropolymer layer, a polymeric layer, and an adhesive layer. The barrier structure has a chemical permeation breakthrough detection time greater than about one hour for hazardous chemicals as measured by ASTM F739. The disclosure is further directed to a method of forming the aforementioned barrier structure. The barrier material is designed to be suitable for construction of shelters, clothing, containers and other articles requiring barrier properties.

  • Publication number: 20130337250
Abstract: An improved perfluoropolymer composite that uses a blend of a perfluoropolymer (such as PTFE) and a silicone polymer. By coating a substrate, such as glass fiber fabric, with a blend of a perfluoropolymer and a silicone polymer, an adhesive layer can be bonded either directly to the surface of the perfluoropolymer composite or to a perfluoropolymer composite that has been primed without the need to have otherwise treated the perfluoropolymer surface, such as either by etching or by the deposition of an intermediate coating containing colloidal silica or other similar agents, to make the surface bondable.

  • Publication number: 20120148849
Abstract: A multilayer construction includes a barrier layer having first and second major surfaces and including a polyimide material, a first outer layer directly bonded to and in direct contact with the first major surface of the barrier layer, and a second outer layer directly bonded to an in direct contact with the second major surface of the barrier layer. The first and second outer layer including a thermoplastic polymer. The first and second outer layers form first and second opposite outer surfaces of the multilayer construction. The construct is prepared using extreme heat lamination.
