  • Patent number: 8584029
Abstract: Systems and methods for assisting user interaction with physical objects. A system may include an interactive display surface configured to display visual output and receive a physical object, where the object possesses encoded data including data other than data directly identifying the object. The system may include a computer-readable storage medium storing program instructions executable by the surface computer to implement software applications. In response to the display surface receiving the object, the surface computer may be configured to read the encoded data passively with respect to the object, without using an active electronic interface between the surface computer and the object, and to display a user interface for software applications dependent upon the passively read encoded data, such that one or more elements of the user interface are visually associated on the interactive display surface with the physical object.

  • Patent number: 7930304
Abstract: A method for rating a submission, including receiving the submission from a user, where the submission is associated with a category; obtaining a self-rating and a user contribution level associated with the category, where the self-rating is obtained from the user; determining a submission score for the submission based on the self-rating and the user contribution level; and presenting the submission score for the submission.

  • Patent number: 7904899
Abstract: Systems and methods for customizing a configuration file. A system includes a configuror client that generates and exports a configuration file, a configuration sharing server that makes the configuration file assessable, and a configuree client that imports the configuration file. The configuration sharing server provides a community-based collection of configuration files for access by the public or by a specific organization. The configuree client can detect when a new profile is being used (e.g., the first time that the financial management application is executed after installation). In response, the configuration client begins an interview process for customizing the financial management application (e.g., by presenting a series of user interfaces). Part of the interview process allows an end-user to select a particular configuration file stored on the configuration sharing client or on a local memory device.

  • Publication number: 20090282370
Abstract: A graphical user interface is provided for facilitating entry of data into a telephone, personal digital assistant or other computing device having a touch-sensitive input component (e.g., a touch screen). The interface includes multiple initial contact areas associated with different input (e.g., characters, numerical values, commands), a home area and spokes positioned between the initial contact areas and the home area. The interface is manipulated using gestures. A data input gesture begins by touching in or near an initial contact area and moving to or toward the home area, generally in proximity to the corresponding spoke. Other illustrative gestures include tracing directly from one initial contact area to another (e.g., to add the corresponding data values), performing a “throwing” gesture out of the home area (e.g., to delete the last input), gesturing backward/forward in the home area (e.g., to move backward/forward through a series of fields), etc.

  • Publication number: 20080021828
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for determining a set of commands to download check-images from an online-banking-application. During operation, the system receives a plurality of command-sets from an application, wherein a command-set is a sequence of commands that causes an online-banking-application to send one or more check-images to the application. Next, the system compares the command-sets to determine a minimal set of commands that cause the online-banking-application to send the check-images to the application. The system then sends the minimal set of commands to one or more applications which download check-images from the online-banking-application. One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for performing automatic check reconciliation. During operation, the system receives a check-image from an online-banking-application.
