  • Publication number: 20080049371
Abstract: The present invention provides a cryogenic magnet control system comprising a plurality of magnet coils each comprising superconductive material wound on a former and means for energising said magnet coils to generate an operational magnetic field of predetermined strength and homogeneity. Each former also supports control windings of a non-superconductive material. The control windings are adapted to effect two or more of: (a) restraining differential expansion as between said magnet coils and their respective formers; (b) supporting eddy currents configured and dimensioned to resist magnetic field expansion associated with quenching of said operational magnetic field; and (c) automatically providing localised heating for at least some of the magnet coils responsive to a quench event, thereby to distribute a quench amongst said at least some magnet coils.

  • Patent number: 7248047
Abstract: A trailer for housing a mobile MRI system has magnetic shielding in the form of a plurality of sheets of magnetic material which are supported within the trailer, by a rigid supporting structure or frame. The layers are arranged in a stacked or laminar configuration with the laterally longest layer disposed inward of the remaining layers, such that the width of the gap between that layer and the exterior walls of the trailer at the lateral extremities of the shielding is greater than its width in a central area. The rigid frame maintains the gap and prevents contacting of the shielding and the trailer walls.
