  • Patent number: 11047180
Abstract: A hole cleaning joint for a drill string is deployed into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation. The hole cleaning joint includes a tubular body connectable to the drill string and a hole cleaning section positionable about the tubular body. The hole cleaning section has an outer surface engageable with a wall of the well bore. The outer surface has spiral grooves extending therein defining blades therebetween, and an uphole end and a downhole end with a spiral cavity therebetween. The spiral cavity has a width that decreases towards the uphole end of the spiral cavity to define a tapered flow channel to receive cuttings therethrough whereby uphole movement of cuttings is facilitated during drilling.

  • Publication number: 20180320456
Abstract: A threaded pin connector disposable at one end of a tubular member and having a longitudinal axis is disclosed. The threaded pin connector includes a pin external shoulder and a pin internal shoulder axially spaced from the external shoulder. In addition, the threaded pin connector includes a plurality of threads in a region between the external shoulder and the internal shoulder that taper relative to the longitudinal axis at 1.0 to 1.5 inches per foot. The plurality of the threads have a bearing strength and a shear strength. The plurality of the threads are configured such that the bearing strength is within +/?5% of the shear strength.

  • Patent number: 10041307
Abstract: A tubular member has a longitudinal axis, a first end, and a second end. The tubular member includes a pin connector including an external shoulder, an internal shoulder axially spaced from the external shoulder, and a plurality of threads in a region between the external shoulder and the internal shoulder that taper relative to the longitudinal axis at 1.0 to 1.5 inches per foot. The threads include an axial density measured in a number of threads per inch (TPI), and when the pin connector is threadably engaged with a box connector, each of the threads contacts a corresponding box thread on the box connector along a projected radial distance HC. In addition, the threads are configured such that the product of 2(?{square root over (3)})(HC)(TPI) is greater than or equal to 0.95 and less than or equal to 1.05.

  • Publication number: 20120067563
Abstract: A tool joint comprises a body having a central axis, a first end, and a second end opposite the first end, wherein the body is made of a first material having a first hardness. In addition, the tool joint comprises an annular hardband disposed about the body. The hardband is made of a second material. The second material comprises a base material and a plurality of discrete pellets dispersed throughout the base material. The base material has a second hardness and the pellets have a third hardness. The second hardness is substantially the same as the first hardness. The third hardness is greater than the second hardness and less than the hardness of tungsten carbide.
