Patent number: 11306742Abstract: A submersible pneumatic canister pump system for pumping liquid from a tank or underground location by incorporating a valve inside the pump for preventing air from exiting with the liquid discharge. The floating-ball valve is located near the lower end of the pump and communicates with the discharge pipe. When liquid level approaches the lower end of the pump, a ball of lighter density than the liquid rests on a seat and prevents further discharge of liquid and the passage of air out of the pump. Also various pump control arrangements can be used to operate the pump and a quick-passage check valve can be used to enhance operation.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2017Date of Patent: April 19, 2022Inventor: Michael K. Breslin

Patent number: 8960675Abstract: A game for creating and enlivening discussions between two or more people based upon images produced using liquid drops on a semi-absorbent surface. A few drops of liquid are randomly applied to a surface such as paper that has been treated to render a significant color change due to the reaction of the constituents of the liquid. The paper can be folded or twisted to enhance spreading of the liquid and absorption of the liquid into the paper and create a somewhat symmetrical image on the surface. The image thus formed is then used within the game. The game is then played according to the guidelines, if any, chosen by the participants before beginning.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2012Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Inventor: Michael K. Patent number: 6095759Abstract: A submersible pump is disclosed for use in a body of liquid such as a well or sump. The pump has an air intake port and an air outlet port, as well as a liquid intake port and a liquid discharge tube. A valve mounted within the pump selectively permits the pump's chamber to communicate with either the air intake port or the air discharge port. When liquid enters the pump's chamber, the air displaced by the incoming liquid is permitted by the valve to escape via the air outlet port. When the pump's chamber is sufficiently full of liquid, the valve closes off the air outlet port and permits compressed air to enter the pump's chamber via the air inlet port in order to force the accumulated liquid out the liquid discharge tube. A float in the pump's chamber rises and falls with the level of liquid in the chamber to actuate the valve.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1999Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Inventor: Michael K. Breslin

Patent number: 6027314Abstract: A pump, submerged in a fluid in a pump or well, has a buoyant outer, enclosing casing. Communicated to the casing are a conduit to supplying compressed air to the casing, a conduit for carrying the exhausted air away from the casing, an inlet and check valve for permitting entry of fluid into the casing, and an outlet and a check valve connected to discharge piping for carrying fluid away from the casing. The outer casing slides vertically relative to the discharge piping and is supported by the discharge piping for vertical movement between upper and lower stops where the casing actuates an air exhaust valve and a compressed air inlet valve. When the buoyant casing is in the upper position, air within the casing can escape through the open chamber air exhaust valve and compressed air entry is blocked to the casing through the closed compressed air inlet valve.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Inventor: Michael K. Patent number: 5971715Abstract: In a pneumatic pump of the float actuated variety, a radial check valve array is utilized for minimizing the trigger point of the pump relative to the bottom of the leachate and/or groundwater table. The pump includes a fluid-tight casing from which fluid to be pumped can be discharged to an outflow conduit such as a well casing. An outflow conduit extends from a outflow conduit inlet at the bottom inside of the fluid-tight casing to a pumped fluid discharge--such as a well casing--exterior of the casing. An actuating float is disposed within the pump casing and is moveable over a distance responsive to liquid level within the casing from a first lower position adjacent the bottom of the casing to a second upper position for actuating an air inlet to discharge air into the casing. An air inlet check valve is provided having an inlet for communication to a source of air under pressure exterior of the pump casing and an outlet to the interior of the pump casing.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Clean Environment EngineersInventor: Michael K. Patent number: 5794656Abstract: An improved ball retaining mechanism is disclosed in combination with an improved valve body for maintaining a checking ball within a ball check valve. The valve body includes a central conduit configured about a flow axis passing from the valve inlet to the valve outlet. Adjacent the valve inlet, there is defined a Venturi contoured seat. When an inserted checking ball is lodged on the seat, fluid flow from the outlet to the inlet is stopped. Beyond the seat, an expanded valve flow chamber is defined communicating to the valve outlet having sufficient volume to accommodate both the lifted checking ball and fluid flow around the lifted checking ball from inlet to outlet. The improvement to the valve body includes a the spring steel wire retainer and an interior annulus in the valve body at the expanded flow volume for receiving a spring steel wire retainer. A spring steel wire retainer is provided having a circular section and ball retaining tangs.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1996Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: Clean Environment EngineersInventor: Michael K. Patent number: 5704772Abstract: A conventional vibrator for actuating small diameter pump is tapped at the small volume pressure chamber and communicated to a plugged, elongate hose, thus expanding the actuating pressure chamber of the vibrator conveniently to virtually any required volume within the small casing environment. With the expanded pressure chamber, cycle period of the vibrator can be extended to virtually any desired time cycle without performance limiting closure of the needle valve regulator. An elongate bladder forms the periodic pressure actuated positive displacement volume for the pump. By increased length of the bladder, correspondingly increased cycle pumping volume is provided for the pump. At the same time, bladder expansion provides sufficient pump inlet pressure to enable the use of free floating check valves. A high volume, slow cycle pump for the narrow casing environment results.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1995Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Inventor: Michael K. Breslin

Patent number: 5474685Abstract: A float (26) resides at an interface (21) between a first liquid (20) floating on another liquid (22). A pneumatic pressure sensor (32) senses back-pressure at the float (26) via a conduit (30) and a bubbler hole, or pressure sensing point (28) and relays the information to a recorder (37). Also, a combination detection and recovery device employs the above detection device coupled with a floating liquid skimming device. The recovery unit (90) of the skimming device has a bubbler hole (168) connected to pressure sensor (32) via conduit (30). The pressure sensor (32) is then connected to a pump (88) via another conduit (38). When the pressure at the bubbler hole (168) reaches a predetermined value corresponding to a given fluid thickness, the sensor (32) activates the pump (88) which moves the floating liquid (20) from the recovery unit (90) to a fluid receptacle (102).Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1994Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Inventor: Michael K. Patent number: 4761225Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the removal of liquid hydrocarbons from ground water in perforated well casings consists of a plurality of pump chambers and a control system which is powered by compressed air. The pump chambers are positioned above a liquid hydrocarbon recovery device which is positioned in the well casing at the oil/water interface. The pump chambers are evacuated, causing the ground water and the liquid hydrocarbons to be drawn into separate chambers through respective check valves. The pump chambers are then pressurized with air to push out the water and liquid hydrocarbons through check valves in the chamber discharge conduits, thereby removing the fluids from the well casing.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1986Date of Patent: August 2, 1988Inventor: Michael K. Patent number: 4497370Abstract: Apparatus and method for recovery of liquid hydrocarbons on ground water in which one or more perforate, small diameter (2 to 4 inch) well casings are installed in the ground in or at least adjacent to a contaminated soil area containing the liquid hydrocarbons. A liquid recovery unit is in each well casing and each recovery unit has a hollow housing covered by a semi-permeable membrane which passes liquid hydrocarbons but blocks the flow of ground water into the housing. The liquid hydrocarbons collected in the housings can be moved to a receiver by pressurizing the housings, by suction applied to the housings, by pressurizing the well casings, and by the use of submersible pumps near the housings. Several embodiments of the recovery units are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1982Date of Patent: February 5, 1985Inventor: Michael K. Breslin
