Abstract: This invention relates to methods for transmitting and receiving high resolution television pictures which utilizes the present channel bandwidths and is compatible with present day receivers. Four fields are utilized to produce two interlaced frames. The camera is adjusted so that each scene is converted into four fields of two frames and a signal is sent to inform the receiver to interlace the two frames. Compatibility is obtained since in a 525 line receiver two of the fields are displayed on top of the other two fields.
