Patent number: 9497495Abstract: A venue-cast system and method for providing and receiving venue level transmissions and services, including discovery of a venue specific transmission by receiving an overhead signal from a non-venue network, extracting information for receiving the venue specific transmission from the overhead signal, and tuning to receive the venue specific transmission based on the extracted information. The venue level transmission may be provided and received in a manner that does not prevent an access terminal from receiving a local area or wide area transmission.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2013Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Raghuraman Krishnamoorthi, Pankaj V. Publication number: 20150326382Abstract: A method of initializing a receiver is performed during an initialization mode. Timing offset values for a timing recovery circuit are repeatedly selected. For each selected timing offset value, timing recovery is performed using the timing offset value and groups of weights for a decision feedback equalizer are repeatedly selected. Each selected group of weights is used to perform blind decision feedback equalization. For each selected group of weights, a metric indicating data reception quality is computed. A timing offset value and a group of weights are chosen based on the computed metrics.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2013Publication date: November 12, 2015Inventors: Jian Li, Yin Huang, Yisheng Xue, Michael M. Fan, Fuyun Ling, Jilei Hou

Patent number: 8879440Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for providing ad hoc venue-cast content to a plurality of receiving access terminals within a venue boundary. Ad hoc content may be generated at an access terminal, transmitted to a venue-cast server, and broadcast to a plurality of venue-cast receiving access terminals within a venue. In addition to broadcasting the ad hoc content, a notification is given to the plurality of receiving access terminals, notifying them regarding the availability of the ad hoc content.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2009Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Jiming Guo, William Y. Huang, Michael M. Fan, Xiaoyi Zhu, Matthew S. Grob

Patent number: 8732272Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining location content from multiple networks is disclosed. The method may comprises: obtaining coarse location content at a wireless communication device (WCD) from a first network using a first protocol, wherein the coarse location content includes information defining locations of geographic coverage regions for one or more second networks which use a second protocol, obtaining WCD location information, determining from the WCD location information and the coarse location content if the WCD is within the geographic coverage region of a second network, accessing the determined second network using the second protocol, receiving from the accessed second network fine location content, and generating an integrated location content item by combining the coarse location content with the fine location content.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2009Date of Patent: May 20, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Manoj M.
