  • Patent number: 7650846
Abstract: A mainsail reefing system comprises: a drum assembly including first and second coaxial drums for collecting luff-end and leech-end reefing lines, respectively; a drive mechanism for rotating the drum assembly; and a levelwind mechanism including a cam shaft configured to convert rotational motion to reciprocating motion, and first and second line guides mechanically coupled to the cam shaft, where the line guides are configured to move in a reciprocating motion across the width of the first and second drums, respectively, for guiding the reefing lines onto their respective drums. The levelwind mechanism is mechanically coupled to the reefing mechanism for coordination of movement of the line guides with rotation of the drum assembly. A preferred drive assembly comprises a third drum attached coaxially to the first and second drums, and a larger diameter threaded disc coaxially attached to an end of the third drum.

  • Patent number: 7170459
Abstract: An antenna assembly for mounting on a backstay of a sailboat. An insulative support apparatus includes a slotted center tube that can be forced over the backstay for mounting thereon. First and second outer tubes are attached on opposite sides of the center tube for holding first and second elongated radiators. Proximal ends of the radiators are electrically joined together and to a lead in-wire for connection to a receiver and/or transmitter. Distal ends of the radiators are secured at distal ends of the outer tubes by attachment to eyelets on the bottoms of plugs inserted into the distal ends of the outer tubes, which serve additionally to prevent water from entering the tubes. The outer tubes each include a water drainage channel to allow moisture accumulating to run out a bottom, proximal end of each tube.

  • Patent number: 5762062
Abstract: A fireplace vent of the direct-vent type comprises two telescoping sections each having outer air intake housings and inner exhaust housings. One section has an adapter configured to communicate with a standard round concentric vent pipe of a fireplace. The other section has a termination cap. A pair of heat shields are disposed in spaced parallel relationship over the outer intake housing of each section. The vent can be installed horizontally on the fireplace to vent the fireplace through a wall with a minimum of height of an associated window or shelving unit above the fireplace. The adjustable telescoping configuration of the two vent sections also allows for ease in installation by avoiding the need to cut the vent to proper length.
