Patent number: 11774600Abstract: A method and device determines an evolving position of a device using electromagnetic interference, which is jamming electromagnetic navigation signals. An antenna arrangement receives both the electromagnetic navigation signals and the electromagnetic interference. A discerned position is determined for each of one or more jamming antennas emitting the electromagnetic interference. A detection circuit determines each discerned position from the electromagnetic interference received at the device and at least one measurement of the evolving position using the electromagnetic navigation signals. The evolving position of the device is determined while the electromagnetic interference prevents subsequently measuring the evolving position using the electromagnetic navigation signals. An evaluation circuit determines the evolving position from the electromagnetic interference received at the device and from each discerned position of the one or more jamming antennas.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2021Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignee: United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Michael Oren Ferguson, Ceferino Teodoro Fajardo, III

Patent number: 10817981Abstract: An online system is configured to provide content items to users. The content item includes an image, and is displayed with an interface element colored using an accent color to create a unified look and feel with the displayed image. The accent color is dynamically selected based upon the image, extracted color features of the image, and embeddings associated with the image indicating at least one object depicted in the image. A machine-trained classification model selects the color to be used in displaying the interface element from a quantized set of colors of the image, based upon the extracted color features and the embeddings associated with the image. As such, suitable accent colors can be selected automatically for large numbers of content items, in a flexible manner that can account for the context of the images and the context in which the content item is to be displayed.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2019Date of Patent: October 27, 2020Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventor: Michael Oren Belkin

Patent number: 10559098Abstract: An online system is configured to provide content items to users. The content item includes an image, and is displayed with a color block or colored border as an accent to the image. The color of the color block or colored bordered is dynamically selected based upon the image included in the content item, and is selected using a waterfall selection method comprising a sequence of different selection methods, each selection method configured to select a color based upon a most common color of the image that satisfies a respective set of selection criteria or determine that no color meets the respective set of selection criteria. The selection methods may comprise a dominant color selection method wherein the selected color corresponds to a most dominant color of the image, and a complementary color selection method wherein the select color is a complement of a dominant color of the image.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2019Date of Patent: February 11, 2020Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Michael Oren Belkin, Christopher Joseph Welch

Publication number: 20200027171Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for generating recommendations for users of a service. A data processor collects raw user data and provides that data to a learning engine. The learning engine analyzes the data to generate weighted social aspect scores and further to generate a social affinity score using the weighted social aspect scores. The social affinity score is combined with information about people near the user to generate a social context, and the availability of the user is evaluated to determine whether a recommendation should be provided to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2019Publication date: January 23, 2020Inventors: Michael A. Oren, Prasad Siddalinga

Publication number: 20180142236Abstract: The present invention provides synthetic single guide RNAs that comprise two separate functional sequences (commonly known as crRNA and tracrRNA) connected by a linker. These synthetic single guide RNA molecules are useful in gene editing when used with RNA-guided endonucleases such as cas9 in eukaryotic cells. The availability of the synthetic single guide RNAs makes the screening for gene editing in high-through-put format simple and convenient.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2016Publication date: May 24, 2018Inventors: Kaizhang He, Emily Marie Anderson, Michael Oren Delaney

Patent number: 6421463Abstract: A trainable object detection system and technique for detecting objects such as people in static or video images of cluttered scenes is described. The described system and technique can be used to detect highly non-rigid objects with a high degree of variability in size, shape, color, and texture. The system learns from examples and does not rely on any a priori (hand-crafted) models or on motion. The technique utilizes a wavelet template that defines the shape of an object in terms of a subset of the wavelet coefficients of the image. It is invariant to changes in color and texture and can be used to robustly define a rich and complex class of objects such as people. The invariant properties and computational efficiency of the wavelet template make it an effective tool for object detection.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1999Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Tomaso Poggio, Michael Oren, Constatine P.
