  • Patent number: 7825159
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a mixture of at least two different alkylated phenolphthalein ester compounds. Specifically, the present invention is directed to a mixture of at least two different compounds of formula I: wherein R1 represents a straight chain alkyl group having 1 to 11 carbon atoms; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group of the formula C(O)R4 where R4 is a hydrogen atom or a straight chain alkyl group having 1 to 11 carbon atoms; X2-X5 independently represent hydrogen; X6-X13 is same or different, and represents hydrogen or a straight or branched chain alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms. It further relates to a marker composition containing said mixtures dissolved in a solvent.

  • Patent number: 5560855
Abstract: A polyol ester or poly-alkylene glycol lubricant is tagged by adding to the lubricant a chemical marker which is stable over the temperature cycling range of a refrigerant. In testing for the presence of the marker, a sample of a lubricant is obtained, and the sample is diluted in a sufficient volume of an organic solvent such that subsequent admixture with an aqueous solution will not result in emulsification. The diluted sample is extracted with an aqueous solution appropriate for the marker. Simultaneous with or subsequent to extraction, a chromophoric reaction of the marker is induced, whereby a readily identifiable color is observable.

  • Patent number: 5504199
Abstract: A dye which is either 2-naphthalenol (phenylazo) phenyl azo alkyl derivatives and 1,4-dialkylamino anthraquinone is added to sufficient non-ionic surfactant to compatibilize it with ethanol and an solvent to produce a homogeneous solution. The homogeneous solution is added to ethanol in an amount to provide a desired amount of coloration to the ethanol.

  • Patent number: 5306343
Abstract: A tag is added to an asphalt additive, typically an anti-stripping agent. The additive dye is mixed with other components of an asphalt composition and melt processed at 300.degree. F. (149.degree. C.) or above to produce an asphalt composition. Presence of the tag to identify presence of the additive is performed by dissolving the asphalt portion of the composition in a water-immiscible solvent and then extracting the tag in an acidic aqueous solution and developing a color with a diazo compound.

  • Patent number: 5049189
Abstract: A liquid dyestuff, useful as a major component of a ballpoint ink is prepared. A dye base, having both a sulfonic acid group and an azo group bonded to the same aromatic ring system, is provided in the aqueous phase of a two-phase system in which the organic phase is about 30 percent or more benzyl alcohol. In this two-phase system, the dye base is complexed with a diaryl quanidine, and the resulting dye concentrates in the organic solvent phase.
