  • Patent number: 6224852
Abstract: The present invention teaches liquid sunscreen compositions in which level of surfactant is higher than level at which the sunscreen component(s) are still soluble in the surfactant in which they are used; and which comprise minimal levels of cationic polymer. Combination of cationic polymer (especially preferred surfactants and at minimum levels) and minimal levels of sunscreen lead to compositions with minimal levels of deposition and minimal SPF. Further, the compositions also maintain good lather.

  • Patent number: 6218348
Abstract: The invention discloses process for making bars comprising fatty acid soaps, free fatty acid, polyalkylene glycol and specific salts of protic acid (i.e., having pKa1 less than 6, preferably less than 5.5). Using specific equivalent molar ratios of fatty acid to protic acid salt and specific wt. ratio of PAG and salt of protic acid to free fatty acid, applicants obtain bars having sensory feel of soap and which improve skin condition in Controlled Application Wash Tests.

  • Patent number: 5817609
Abstract: The present invention relates to personal wash bar compositions comprising hydrophobic, low viscosity (less than 1000 cp) emollient agents which have been specifically pre-thickened with defined polymer composition. Use of the specific thickeners allow incorporation of the low viscosity oil (viscosity less than 1000 cp) in the personal wash compositions to deliver enhanced skin benefits and desired user properties without compromising foaming and bar processing.

  • Patent number: 5760407
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for the identification of fluorescing follicles that can be follicular impactions and/or microcomedones (clinically non-evident acne lesions), and/or comedones (clinically evident acne lesions) and/or bacteria on the face or other skin surface area. The inventive device allows the detection of both types of follicular fluorescence (yellow/green and orange/red). For safety reasons, to prevent skin burns and erythema, the filter on the ultraviolet light source removes substantially all the harmful UVB radiation (280-320 nm wavelength range). The filter used in conjunction with the detection means removes reflected and scattered light emanating from the subject's skin surface, thus increasing the sensitivity and discretion of the technique and making fluorescence detection easier and clearer.
