  • Patent number: 5824733
Abstract: The proposed aqueous coating product for the production of coatings whose perceived color changes with the angle from which they are viewed contains: one or more water-diluable binders; one or more scale-type pigments, the hue of which depends on the angle from which they are viewed, these pigments consisting of oriented, three-dimensionally cross-linked substances of chiral phase, liquid crystalline structure; optionally one or more cross-linking agents; optionally one or more coloring absorption pigments and/or fillers; and optionally additives usually used in coatings of this type.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 24, 1996
Date of Patent: October 20, 1998
    Assignee: Wacker-Chemie GmbH
Inventors: Jurgen Dobert, Manfred Oppermann, Michael Prescher, Gunter Richter
  • Patent number: 5523336
Abstract: The invention is directed to an aqueous coating composition composed of chlorinated polyolefins and one or more water-borne, self-emulsifying epoxy resins. The epoxy resin is formed from a combination of aromatic polyols, diepoxy compounds and a condensation product formed from diepoxy compounds and aliphatic polyols. The composition is free of emulsifiers yet forms homogenous mixtures in aqueous media. The composition exhibits strong bonding to plastic substrates.

  • Patent number: 5473032
Abstract: Coating composition containing one or several (meth)acrylic copolymers having hydroxyl groups, as well as one or several solvents and, optionally, water, special-effect pigments and/or coloring pigments, fillers and/or conventional lacquering additives, whereby the (meth)acrylic copolymer is essentially constructed from units based on the following monomers:a) 0.5-10.0% by weight of amides and/or N-substituted amides of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid,b) 5.0-30.0% by weight of phenylalkyl esters of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid,c) 10.0-30.0% by weight of hydroxyalkyl esters of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid having 2-8 C-atoms in the hydroxyalkyl residue,d) 0.6-7.5% by weight of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid, ande) 30.0-83.9% by weight of alkyl esters of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid having 1-18 C-atoms in the alkyl residue, andwhereby the sum of components a) to e) amounts in each case to 100.
