  • Patent number: 9478146
Abstract: A method and system for assessing a student's reading ability is disclosed. An image-capturing device detects, from a worksheet comprising a position-identifying pattern, a first mark in a first region of the worksheet. The first mark is in a first indicator portion of the position-identifying pattern contained within a first indicator region that is associated with a first word. The image-capturing device detects a first note in a note region of the worksheet. Based on whether the first mark, the first note, or both indicates that the first word was read incorrectly or correctly, a processor determines a first reading assessment result for the first word and stores, in a memory, a digital document file comprising the first reading assessment result.

  • Patent number: 9047508
Abstract: A method and system for identifying and acting on a handwritten action item is disclosed. The system may learn a set of user-defined symbols and associate each symbol with an action category. Then, when the system that captures a handwritten action item that includes one of the symbols, it will determine which action category that corresponds to the symbol, identify process parameters in the action item, determine a task to be performed based on the action category, and apply the process parameters to automatically perform the task.

  • Publication number: 20120282587
Abstract: A method and system generates and administers an individualized student worksheet. A set of problems and a unique embedded data pattern are generated and printed on a worksheet substrate. A teacher may point a camera pen point at an area of the pattern to identify the substrate and a location on the substrate. Based on this information, the method and system may access a worksheet file to identify the problem whose physical position corresponds to the captured embedded data. The system may present the problem's solution to the teacher, who may then use the pen to mark the problem as correct or incorrect, and optionally annotate notes for the student, teacher or others. The camera pen may collect the teacher's marks and annotations and store them with the worksheet file for later retrieval.

  • Patent number: 6335748
Abstract: Color imaging methods and systems allow each color image to be registered in a composite manner. An image-on-image registration controller of an image forming device adjusts the control signals which control the output of image data to reduce or eliminate image registration offsets. In particular, two separate feedback loops are combined to monitor and adjust image registration without going off-line for a set-up procedure. These two feedback loops include a dynamic skew control feedback loop, which monitors and adjusts the edge position of the photoreceptor belt to infer lateral registration, and a direct image registration feedback loop, which monitors and adjusts relative image registration directly. The control signals are adjusted based on a determined image registration offset. The image processing device outputs an image based on the control signals adjusted based on a determined image registration offset.

  • Patent number: 6137517
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining and correcting registration skew in an image is presented. In the method and apparatus according to this invention, problems in registration, such as misalignment of images and incorrect registration with a receiving substrate are reduced or eliminated. According to this invention, an addition of a second sensor at the transfer end of the photoreceptor belt and the inclusion of a dynamic skew controller will help solve this problem for the lateral direction registration errors. To this end, this invention provides an image processing device embodied as the dynamic skew controller with an additional belt sensor mounted at the transfer end of the photoreceptor module and a microcontroller to measure and calculate the required adjustments. Based on the calculations, the lateral position of images and substrates are adjusted, thus eliminating lateral dynamic registration errors.
