Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for facilitating network transactions. One exemplary method includes receiving, from a terminal, a request for a conversion option for a transaction to a payment account, where the request includes a transaction amount for the transaction in a first currency and an identifier associated with the payment account. The exemplary method also includes determining a charge rate for the payment account for conversion of the transaction amount to a second currency, determining the conversion option for the transaction in the second currency based on at least a conversion rate and the charge rate, and transmitting the conversion option to the terminal in response to the request.

Abstract: Registration information for a plurality of consumers is obtained at an electronic wallet platform. A mechanism is provided to integrate the electronic wallet platform with a plurality of merchants. Via the electronic wallet platform, a given one of the consumers is afforded an option to select from multiple methods to pay for a transaction with a given one of the merchants. The multiple methods are based, at least in part, on the registration information. At least one of the multiple methods includes a virtual card number. Further steps include obtaining, from the given one of the consumers, a selection of the virtual card number for payment for the transaction; and providing the given one of the merchants with the virtual card number.

In connection with an on-line shopping session at an e-commerce retailer, a request is obtained, from the e-commerce retailer, for a corresponding one of the local shipping addresses; the same is supplied to the e-commerce retailer in response to the request. Product information and an indication of a desired form of shipping from the e-commerce retailer to the local shipping address are obtained; as are an indication of a desired form of shipping from the local shipping address to a corresponding one of the physical addresses. An indication of an estimated fully landed cost associated with the on-line shopping session is dispatched.

Abstract: A remote control unit for use with an ophthalmic surgical system having a main control console with video display screen and operator interface. The remote controller is connected by an electrical umbilical cord to the main console and provides a second operator display and membrane-switch interface for use by a surgeon or other member of the surgical team. This remote control unit has its own housing with a splash-resistant front face that is divided into primary and secondary operator interface panels. The primary panel includes a rectangular display field having a plurality of back-illumination lights for selectively illuminating legends found on a replaceable legend card that fits within a slot behind the face plates. Control functions corresponding to the illuminated legends may be selected or de-selected by pressing nearby switches arranged in locations adjacent to the display field. The secondary panel also contains membrane switches and legends illuminated by back-lighting.

Abstract: A motorized IV pole system for controlling the height of an IV container to thereby control the infusion pressure in an IV tube includes a telescoping IV pole system. In one embodiment, comprising three concentric support members, the outer support member is fixed, the middle support member is reciprocable with respect to the outer support member and is driven by a rack gear attached thereto. An inner support member is reciprocatable in the interior of the middle support member and is driven by a cable attached to the outer support member passing over a pulley attached to the middle support member. The rack on the middle support member may be driven by a shaft to which is attached a hand crank and an AC motor. The AC motor may be driven by a programmable control system which includes an optical encoder to permit display of the height of the IV container. Also, preselected heights and various speeds of height adjustment may be utilized.
