  • Publication number: 20240074868
Abstract: An example method is provided for maintaining stability to an injury defined by a separation of two bones (e.g., the tibia and fibula), the separation being an injured distance greater than a pre-injury distance between the two bones in a first human patient. The method may include delivering a first apparatus for approximation of the two bones in the first human patient comprising the injury, the first apparatus including a flexible segment disposed between a first anchor and a second anchor. The method may further include maintaining, by the first apparatus, a restored distance between the two bones in the first human patient after a repetitive dynamic loading, the restored distance approximately equal to the pre-injury distance.

  • Patent number: 9181076
Abstract: A novel system for safely transferring liquids from containers such as plastic jugs that are sealed by frangible seals, to conventional drums of the character having coupler-operated extractor valves. In one form of the invention, a standard coupler mechanism has been modified in a manner to provide means for rupturing the frangible seal of the sealed container without adversely affecting the manner in which the coupler is used to operate the extractor valve that is carried by the drum to which the liquid is to be transferred. Additionally, a novel adapter member has been provided for interconnecting the sealed container to the coupler mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20130040098
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed toward benzoxazine composite structures and the application thereof. In some embodiments, a radome can be constructed from a benzoxazine composite structure. A benzoxazine structure can include a low density core with one or two benzoxazine composite face skins. The benzoxazine face skins can include reinforcement materials to provide structural strength. Such radomes and/or benzoxazine structures can be used in various maritime, aircraft, rocket, missile, and/or automobile applications. In particular, radomes can be used to house communication equipment such as antennas and the like.

  • Publication number: 20090043552
Abstract: Patent systems are often justified by assumptions that inventive activity will be spurred by the prospect of patent protection, leading to the accrual of greater societal benefits than would be possible under non-patent systems. One way to test this hypothesis is experimentally to simulate the behavior of inventors and licensees, in particular, and society, in general, under conditions approximating patent and non-patent systems. By measuring differences in a metric representing societal benefit, it is possible to make direct quantitative comparisons between such alternative systems. The simulation is simulating all parameters in the patent system, useful for economists, social scientists, IP professionals, students, attorneys, business people, and government planners, among others.

  • Publication number: 20070217562
Abstract: A low frequency timing circuit is used to reestablish a timing signal in a high-frequency timing circuit after the high frequency timing circuit has lost and regained power. The timing of the low frequency circuit is measured against the timing of the high frequency circuit before the high frequency circuit has lost power. The low frequency circuit then is used to measure time after the high frequency circuit has lost power. Once the high frequency circuit has regained power, its timing signal is reestablished at an appropriate time based on a time measurement obtained from the low frequency circuit.
