Patent number: 12001296Abstract: Techniques for continuous lock-minimal checkpointing and recovery with a distributed log-based datastore are described. A continuous, fault-tolerant checkpoint process is run on a node in a cluster in a compute-optimized or memory-optimized manner, thereby checkpointing the in-memory replica state of the node to a durable checkpoint datastore. A node can partially restore its replica state by obtaining checkpoint data, which includes an identifier of a low-water mark in a journal shard. The node can attach to the journal shard using the low-mater mark as the point of attachment, enabling the node to finalize the restoration of the replica state to be current.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2022Date of Patent: June 4, 2024Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Abhiram Kumar Hare Ram Singh, Theodore Allen Carroll, Nathaniel Vaughan Langman, Michael Anthony Sciscenti

Publication number: 20230001417Abstract: A pierceable cap 11 may be used for containing sample specimens. The pierceable cap 11 may prevent escape of sample specimens before transfer with a transfer device 43. The pierceable cap 11 may fit over a vessel 21. An access port in the shell of the pierceable cap 11 may allow passage of a transfer device 43 through the pierceable cap 11. At least one frangible layer 215, 216 may be configured with cross slits 506 in a particular cross slit geometry. The cross slits 506 may contain an openable portion 644 or be covered by a thin membrane 645. The shell 610 and frangible layer(s) 215, 216 may be integrated into a one piece cap 601, or be separate components 634. The membrane on which the cross slits 506 are placed can be flat or contoured to guide the transfer device 43 to the cross slits 506.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2022Publication date: January 5, 2023Applicant: BECTON, DICKINSON AND COMPANYInventors: Ammon David Lentz, Kevin Bailey, Dustin Diemert, Joel Daniel Krayer, Laurence Michael Vaughan

Publication number: 20220372554Abstract: A direct chemical lysis composition includes an assay compatible buffer composition and an assay compatible surfactant. When combined with a specimen storage composition, such compositions prevent undesired modifications to nucleic acid and proteins lysed from cells in the biological sample. Assays of samples from such compositions do not require expensive and time-consuming steps such as centrifugation and prolonged high temperature processing. The direct chemical lysis composition of the present invention permits direct nucleic acid extraction from the cells in the biological sample without the need to decant off the transport media or otherwise exchange the transport media with assay compatible buffers. There is no need to combine the sample with proteinase K or another enzyme to extract nucleic acids from the cells. A method for lysing cells to obtain target nucleic acid for assay and a kit for combining the direct chemical lysis composition with a sample are also contemplated.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2022Publication date: November 24, 2022Inventors: Feng Yang, Sha-Sha Wang, Laurence Michael Vaughan, Michael Porter, Elaine Rose

Patent number: 9251530Abstract: A model based social analytic system collects social signals from social network accounts for different companies and constituents. The social signals can be used to benchmark social network performance for different contextual dimensions, such as industries, companies, brands, etc. Conversations may be identified in the signals and the types of constituents participating in the conversations may be identified. Analytics can then be determined for the contextual dimensions based on the related conversations and the types of constituents participating in the conversations.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2012Date of Patent: February 2, 2016Assignee: SPRINKLR, INC.Inventors: Jeffrey Dachis, Erik Lee Huddleston, Brian Justin Huddleston, II, Steven Michael Vaughan, Roger Louis Cauvin, John Joseph De Oliveira, William Lance Eason, Jeremy Hanna, Shannon Paul Hardt, Bryan Joseph Horne, Brandon Kearby, Clinton Frederick Miller, Jacob Andrew Perkins, Timothy Joseph Potter, Ramon Renteria, Jason Samuel Westigard, David Chi-Fine Yu

Patent number: 6823600Abstract: An adjustable fit laser-projecting tool used to project a light beam outward from the end of any cylindrical object for reference to the object's centerline axis or reference to points parallel to the centerline axis some distance away from the cylindrical object. The tool is comprised of a clamping means utilizing the outer surface of the cylindrical object as the contact surface. The tool contacts the outer surface of a cylindrical object as to orient the tool to the centerline of the cylindrical object. A laser diode module is mounted on a sliding centering scale, allowing the laser diode module to be moved to the centerline of the cylindrical object or another desired position parallel to the centerline axis of the cylindrical object.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2003Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Inventor: Jason Michael Vaughan
