Abstract: A system and method for gathering, processing, and analyzing data to determine the risk associated with driving behavior is disclosed. A crash risk factor can be assigned to a driver behavior in a database (710), where the crash risk factor has a value related to a crash scenario. The crash scenario can be a crash type or a crash severity. A trip length input for the vehicle can be received from a sensor (720). The trip length input can be a distance traveled for the trip or a time duration for the trip. The trip length can be segmented into a plurality of intervals. The interval can be a distance segment of the trip or a time segment of the trip. The sensor can either be an integrated vehicle sensor integrated with the vehicle or a portable sensor contained in the vehicle. The portable sensor contained in the vehicle can be a mobile phone or other mobile communication device. The integrated vehicle sensor can be an on-board sensor that is configured to communicate with the portable wireless device.
