  • Patent number: 7937918
Abstract: A plurality of corn head row units are mounted in side-by-side relationship to each other, with each row unit including a first gear case containing a gear train coupled for driving two forwardly projecting stalk roll drive shafts and two gathering chain drive shafts supported by the gear case. Located beside the first gear case is a second gear case containing a second gear train coupled driving a stalk chopper drive shaft supported by, and projecting downwardly from, the second gear case. A main power shaft extends through a rear region of the first and second gear cases and carries a dual direction slip clutch providing overload protection for the first and second gear cases. When a stalk chopper is not used, the slip clutch is arranged for establishing overload protection for an adjacent second row unit gear case.

  • Patent number: 5195309
Abstract: A row crop header for an agricultural harvesting machine having a plurality of row crop dividers defining crop gathering gaps. Each divider comprises a semiconical portion and a semicyclindrical portion that are formed roto molded polyethylene. Both portions are hollow double walled self-supporting polyethylene structures. The semiconical portion and the semicylindrical portion are pivotally secured to one another so they can be jacknifed into a transport configuration. The semicylindrical portion of the divider is pivotally mounted to a transverse frame by a first mounting assembly. A second mounting assembly is mounted to outwardly extending frame portions. The second mounting assembly has an upwardly extending pin which engages an aperture in the semicylindrical portion and a supporting rail which supports the bottom of the semiconical portion. The support rail can be vertically adjusted to change the vertical position of the semiconical portion.

  • Patent number: 4227368
Abstract: A row crop header for mounting on the front of a combine has a transversely elongated main frame and a plurality of forwardly extending transversely spaced row units, each row unit being independently floatably supported by the frame. Each row unit has a forwardly and downwardly inclined frame with a top surface and a central fore-and-aft trough which forms the bottom of a fore-and-aft passageway. A pair of endless, flexible conveyor members are mounted on each row unit frame adjacent the top surface and have rearwardly moving inter-meshing inner runs on opposite sides of the passageway, a rotary cutting device being provided on the underside of the row unit frame adjacent the forward ends of the conveyor members for severing the crop from the field. A transverse conveyor spans the rearward ends of the row units for conveying gathered material to a feeding unit for delivery to a processing unit on the combine.
