Abstract: Personalized searching including providing in a search portal a personal search term list; receiving from a user a navigation identification message; and inserting index records in a personalized search index. Inserting index records in a personalized search index typically comprises retrieving a document from a navigation location and indexing the navigation location and keywords from the personal search term list that occur in the retrieved document. A navigation identification message may comprise a search keyword and inserting index records in a personalized search index may include indexing the search keyword with the navigation location in the personalized search index. Embodiments typically include creating and transmitting to users, in dependence upon the personalized search index, search criteria, and user identification, responses to search query messages.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products for informing a caller of a callee identity are disclosed that include: detecting a call receipt condition from a destination device at a trusted telephone network; brokering a connection between said destination device and an external server enabled to perform a callee identity authentication service; and responsive to receiving, from said external server, an authenticated callee identity of a callee utilizing said destination device, transferring said authenticated callee identity to an origin device, such that a caller initiating said call at said origin device is informed of an identity of a party answering said call.

Abstract: A method for presenting content from the page in a distributed database. In a preferred embodiment, a server receives a request from a client for a page from the database wherein the page has a plurality of links to linked pages in the database. The server retrieves the page and generates a set of thumbnails of the linked pages in the database. The server then sends the page and the set of thumbnails to the client.

Abstract: A method for maintaining confidentiality of personal information during E-commerce transactions. The method includes: (1) compiling a profile of personal information within a depository for at least the buying party to an E-commerce transaction; (2) providing the buying party with a unique identifier linked to his profile for use during subsequent E-commerce transactions; and (3) in response to the buying party providing the identifier to a merchant, completing the E-commerce transaction at the depository without providing any of the buyer's personal information to the merchant.

Abstract: In accordance with the method, system, and program of the present invention, consumer preferences designated for a user are transmitted in a transmittable data format from a portable data processing system associated with the user to multiple independent server systems each associated with a consumer provider from among multiple diverse consumer providers. Specialized services and products from each of the diverse consumer providers are designated for the user at each of the independent server systems, in response to comparing the consumer preferences for the user with a database of services and products at each of the independent server systems.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for monitoring event specification and monitoring event subscription. Monitorable events are defined in a context of execution of a monitored component. Monitorable points of execution of the monitored component are identified, wherein events can be generated from the monitorable points. Possible events that can be generated in the identified monitorable points are then identified to define the monitorable events.

Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for accessing calendar information of users in a database for presentation by a personal information manager. Scheduled event records for users are maintained within the database. Further maintained in the database is information on a current location of wireless devices of users in the database, wherein one user is associated with each wireless device. Scheduled event records and the current location of a wireless device for a shadowed user are provided from the database to a device operated by a shadower user in the database.

Abstract: Account transaction protection is provided during the automated authorization process of a charge account, a debit account, a personal account or a business account. After a vendor asks the authorization service provider to approve a pending transaction, the authorization service provider automatically contacts an account holder asking for approval or refusal of the pending transaction. The contact is made by telephone, or computer network, such as the Internet. After entering a PIN to establish identity, the account holder approves or rejects the pending transaction after receiving a validation request message detailing the facts of the transaction. The PIN may be a normal PIN or a duress PIN. If the duress PIN is used, indicating the account holder is under duress to approve the pending transaction, the service provider notifies the authorities. Similarly, if the account holder indicates that refusal is due to unauthorized use, the service provider contacts the authorities.

Abstract: A wireless broadcast of an electronic work with digital rights rules is received from a primary player at a secondary player. Synchronous play of the electronic work at the secondary player is enabled while the secondary player is within reception range of the primary player. A sample of the streamed electronic work with digital rights rules is stored at the secondary player. Responsive to detecting that the secondary player has moved outside reception range of the primary player, the secondary player only allows playback of the stored electronic work according to the digital rights rules.

Abstract: A method, system and program for specifying message outputs in a messaging session are provided. A message entry is received in association with a particular topic from among multiple available topics from a particular user from among multiple users participating in a messaging session. Output attributes are assigned to the message entry according to receiving user specified output preferences for the particular topic individually specified by each of the receiving users participating in the messaging session, such that output of the message entry is uniquely specified for each of the receiving users participating.

Abstract: A proxy service provides telephone conferencing services and personal telephony services. Users can participate in the conference by connecting through different types of networks using a device having one or more types of communication lines connected to the proxy service. A primary user can request the proxy to call each one of the users and establish the conference. The primary user may accomplish this through a data line using data requests or though a voice line using voice requests. Typically, the primary user provides a telephone number for each user. The primary user can also provide with specific times of when calls should be placed, identification information for each user, the type of conference, and other conference parameters.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for marking data versioning for code. Responsive to receiving an application programming interface call, a first marking statement in the code and a second marking statement are inserted in the code. A portion of code between the first marking statement and the second marking statement forms a marked section of code. A change made in data in an object caused by execution of the marked portion of code is detected. The detected change is tracked in manner such that the object may be restored to a prior state.

Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for implementing an auction. Scheduled event records for a user are maintained within a computer database, wherein each scheduled event record indicates a scheduled event for the user at a calendar time slot. A request is received for bids for a service from the user indicating a time period, wherein the service is to be performed during a calendar time slot within the indicated time period. A determination is made of scheduled event records for the user within the indicated time period. A template is generated to display a calendar for the indicated time period showing time slots. Available time slots comprise time slots in the indicated time period that do not include one scheduled event as indicated in the scheduled event records. At least one bid for the service is received for one available time slot in which the service is to be performed, wherein the bid indicates an amount.

Abstract: A system for routing different data types along different client-to-network connection paths. A connection utility, at the client, monitors a data type being transmitted. When a first data type is being transmitted, the connection utility selects a most optimal (or efficient) connection route for that data type. The connection utility then assigns a next connection route for a second data type with different characteristics and/or routing requirements than the first data type. Differences in routing path that are factored into the criteria for selection include: wired versus wireless, level of security, transfer protocol, connection cost, speed, etc.

Abstract: Automated personal video recording, including selecting a lender from among one or more lenders, in which the selecting is carried out in dependence upon a deficit amount, the lenders include at least one user having free storage space and at least one pool having free storage space. The method also includes borrowing, in dependence upon the deficit amount, from the selected lender for a borrower, at least one loan amount of storage space, the borrower having allocated storage space on the PVR optionally including free space, and recording a show for the borrower, the show having a storage space requirement exceeding the borrower's free space by the deficit amount. The borrower can be an individual user or a group comprised of more than one user.

Abstract: Automated personal video recording for multi-user personal video recorders having a multiplicity of registered users, each user having allocated storage space on the PVR which allocated storage space for each user includes storage space upon which shows are recorded and storage space upon which shows have not been recorded (free space), including recording for a borrower a show owned by the borrower, the show having a storage space requirement exceeding the borrower's free space by a deficit amount; selecting, in dependence upon the deficit amount, one or more lenders, wherein the lenders are users, registered on the PVR, having free space; and borrowing, in dependence upon the deficit amount, from the lenders for the borrower, at least one loan amount of storage space. Embodiments include returning from the borrower to the lender the deficit amount after displaying the show to the borrower or upon repossession by a lender.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, ingredients for a particular electronic recipe accessible at a particular web site are encrypted, wherein the encrypted ingredients may be decrypted by a food retailer that intends to pre-package the encrypted ingredients. Instructions for preparing the electronic recipe and the encrypted ingredients are transmitted to a computer system associated with a particular user. The particular user may select the food retailer at which the encrypted ingredients are to be pre-packaged and transmit the encrypted ingredients to the food retailer. The selected food retailer may decrypt the encrypted ingredients utilizing a decryption key provided by the particular web site and pre-package the encrypted ingredients for the particular user.

Abstract: A method, system, and program for tracking locally broadcast electronic works are provided. According to one aspect of the invention, a sending player locally broadcasts an electronic work. In particular, the local broadcast may be a wireless broadcast creating an ad-hoc radio system. At least one recipient player receives the localized broadcast of the electronic work and accepts a distribution cookie for tracking distribution of the electronic work. The at least one recipient player updates the distribution cookie with tracking information about the broadcast of the electronic work, including ratings by users at the second player and purchase of the broadcast electronic work. Each of the at least one recipient players may in turn become a sending player that broadcasts the electronic work to other recipient players and requires the other recipient players to accept a copy of the distribution cookie updated by the second player.

Abstract: A method, system, and program for responding to recipient ratings of wirelessly broadcast electronic works are provided. A secondary player receives a wireless broadcast of an electronic work from a primary player. Next, responsive to a playback of the electronic work from the secondary player, the secondary player requires a recipient of the electronic work to rate the electronic work. Then, responsive to the recipient rating the electronic work or an automatic rating selection made based on the recipient's preferences, the options available to the recipient may be dynamically adjusted. First, responsive to the recipient rating the electronic work with a favorable rating, the secondary player triggers a purchase offer for the electronic work when the secondary player is connected to a network providing access to a purchase server.
