  • Publication number: 20170231962
Abstract: Methods for modulating quorum sensing in certain Gram-negative bacteria having multiple QS systems including Las, Rhl, and Pqs with associated receptors (LasR, RhlR and PqsR) which are modulated by small molecule modulators, particularly non-native modulators. Certain combinations of modulators of Las, Rhl and Pqs exhibit improved inhibition of virulence in comparison to the respective individual modulators. In particular, certain combinations of modulators exhibit improved inhibition in nutritionally depleted environments. More specifically, certain combinations of modulators exhibit improved inhibition in environments depleted in phosphate and/or environments depleted in iron. Nutrient depleted environments can mimic environments associated with bacterial infection in humans and non-human animals. The methods are useful in particular for modulating QS in Pseudomonas and Buckholderia.

  • Publication number: 20170225792
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a parachute deployment system for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). In some examples, the parachute deployment system includes a base attached to the unmanned aerial vehicle, a deployment tray mechanically connected to the base, an acceleration mechanism for propelling the deployment tray away from the base, a parachute cover releasably secured over the deployment tray, a parachute stowed between the deployment tray and the parachute cover, and a triggering mechanism. Upon activation of the triggering mechanism, the parachute cover is released and the deployment tray is propelled away from the base, which rapidly deploys the parachute away from the UAV.

  • Publication number: 20170147160
Abstract: Items may be displayed on a selection list and at least a portion of a virtual wheel displayed on a user interface. The selection list and virtual wheel may be configured to operate in conjunction with one another. The virtual wheel may be rotationally repositioned by a first input received at the user interface to change items displayed concurrently with the rotation of the virtual wheel. A second input received at the user interface may be used to select one of the items displayed on the at least a portion of the virtual wheel as a selection associated with an item displayed on the selection list for further processing. As selections are made on the virtual wheel the selection list displays selections being made to provide a status of activity using the virtual wheel.

  • Patent number: 9602627
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing a bandwidth control interface that displays the relative amount of bandwidth assigned to each application executing at a computer device. By displaying the relative amount of bandwidth, the interface allows the user to easily determine how the available bandwidth is allocated among the applications, and whether the allocation provides for efficient network communication. The bandwidth control interface also allows the user to adjust the relative allocation of bandwidth to the executing applications. The user can thereby control the relative amount of bandwidth that is allocated to each application by a network interface device.

  • Patent number: 9450855
Abstract: A message routing method includes receiving a plurality of messages at a routing node. The routing node is configured to receive instructions indicating an offset, criteria associated with the offset, and a group of interested nodes. The routing node examines a portion of a data payload of a received message based on the offset. If the information at the offset matches the criteria, the routing node routes the message to each of the group of interested nodes. Thus, the routing node can route messages to different groups of destination nodes depending on information in the data payload of received messages, thereby providing a flexible way to route messages over a network.

  • Publication number: 20160076747
Abstract: A headlamp magnetically mounted on a magnifying loupe for use in cosmetic, dental, medical, surgical, hobby and any other fields where an individual would find the ability to simultaneously illuminate and magnify a small area to be advantageous. The headlamp would contain an internal power source, so that there is no longer a need for a cable to connect the headlamp with the bulky external power source that is found in traditional loupe mounted headlamps.

  • Patent number: 9218896
Abstract: A permanent seal for a refueling canal of a nuclear power plant. The seal includes a support structure and a membrane. The support structure includes a first annular plate with ribs connected to and extending from a lower surface of the annular plate. The support structure is positioned atop the shield wall on the refueling canal floor, encircling and positioned near the annulus. The membrane includes a first end that is connected to the seal ledge and a second end that is connected to the refueling canal floor. The membrane has a stepped profile, with side walls extending substantially perpendicularly from a central annular plate to form a pocket configured to fit over the support structure. Loads imparted to the membrane are transferred through the support structure annular plate and ribs to the refueling canal floor.

  • Patent number: 9116893
Abstract: A network traffic managing node of a local area network, such as a router or gateway, can implement a network discovery and remote access mechanism for the local area network. A catalog of a plurality of files stored in a plurality of network devices of the local area network is created at the network traffic managing node based, at least in part, on information associated with the plurality of files determined using a network discovery procedure. The catalog of the plurality of files is provide to a remote network node of a wide area network in response to receiving a message from the remote network node requesting access to the plurality of files. One or more files are provided to the remote network node in response to receiving a message from the remote network node requesting the one or more files from the catalog of the plurality of files.
