Abstract: Novel bicyclic phosphorus derivatives of 2,2-di(hydroxymethyl)-3-bromopropanol having the formula ##STR1## WHERE X IS ZERO OR ONE, NOVEL POLYPHOSPHONATE DERIVATIVES OF THE PHOSPHITE DERIVATIVES OBTAINED BY Michaelis-Arbuzov condensation and other processes; and processes for preparing such novel compounds, the bicyclic derivatives being useful as plastic stabilizers, fireproofing agents and intermediates and the polyphosphonates being useful as fireproofing agents for polymers and textiles.

Abstract: Phosphorus-containing activators for percompounds, the activators being tris(acetoxymethyl) phosphine oxide and its precursors including tris(acetoxymethyl) phosphine and tetrakis(acetoxymethyl) phosphonium compounds, together with the use of such activators with percompounds for oxidizing or bleaching such as in bleaching fibers, oils, fats, and waxes, cosmetological treatment of hair and skin, metallic surface passivation, and purification, disinfection and sterilization techniques, the use of such activators providing more rapid action at a given temperature or equal activity at a lower temperature.

Abstract: This invention relates to new products comprising at least one isomer of polyfluorinated-chain phosphine oxide with the general formula (I):c.sub.n F.sub.2n+1 (C.sub.2 H.sub.4) PO (CH.sub.3).sub.2 (I)and complying with one of the developed formulae II or III : ##STR1## in which C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1 represents a perfluorinated aliphatic chain, n lying between 2 and 18.The invention further relates to methods of obtaining the phosphine oxides of formula I.

Abstract: New process of alcoholysis or phenolysis of P.sub.2 S.sub.5 in the presence of a catalyst having one of the following structures:(A) X(Y).sub.n NQQ' having 1 to 20 C-atoms and 1 to 10 heteroatoms O, S, N or P; X, Q and Q' are hydrogen or univalent hydrocarbon radicals or form rings together; Y is O, S or a bivalent nitrogen or phosphorus radical; n = 0 or 1.(B) (X').sub.m (Y).sub.n N.dbd.Z having 1 to 20 C-atoms and 1 to 10 heteroatoms O, S, N or P; m = 0 or 1; X' has the same meaning as X or is equivalent to --N.dbd.Z or --NQQ'; Z is O, S or a bivalent carbon or hydrocarbon radical, which may form a ring with X'.(c) x(y).sub.n --C.dbd.N with 0 to 20 C-atoms and 1 to 6 heteroatoms O, S, N or P.Application to the preparation of dialkyl- or diaryldithiophosphoric acids used to manufacture phosphorus insecticides, dopes for lubricants, ore flotation agents etc.

Abstract: Processes for the neutralization of tris(2,3-dibromo-1-propyl) phosphate containing certain quantities of phosphoric acidity, and possibly halohydric acidity, which processes comprise heating the phosphate with at least one carbon-containing orthoester, the tris(2,3-dibromo-1-propyl) phosphate so produced being adapted for use as a flame- or fireproofing agent in plastics, synthetic fibers, and paints.

Abstract: Phosphoric esters of polyfluorinated alcohols are disclosed comprising at least one isomer of phosphorous esters of polyfluorinated alcohols, or one of the derivatives thereof, said esters and derivatives thereof corresponding to the general formula: ##STR1## said two isomers corresponding to formulae (II) and (III): ##STR2## wherein C.sub.n F.sub.2n.sub.+1 is a perfluorinated aliphatic chain, n is an integer from 2 to 18, X and Y are the same or different and are each a halogen atom, a hydroxy radical, the group OM in which M is a metallic equivalent, or an alkoxy, chloroalkoxy, hydroxypolyalkylenoxy, aryloxy, or --NZZ' group in which Z and Z' are the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group.The preparation of phosphoric esters having the general formula (I) and mixtures of the isomers (II) and (III) thereof are also disclosed.

Abstract: New monoesters of phosphoric acid with polyfluorinated glycols having the formulasC.sub.n F.sub.2n.sub.+1 CHYCH.sub.2 --OP(O)(OH).sub.2 ##STR1## wherein Y is hydroxyl, can be prepared by alkaline saponification of the corresponding compounds wherein Y is chlorine. The new diacid monoesters and their salts are effective surfactants, unexpectedly stable in alkaline media.
