  • Patent number: 4522052
Abstract: A process and device for drawing tubes by extrusion of a metal billet (4) placed in a receptacle (50) within which ramming of the billet (4) is carried out by first pushing the latter against a ramming insert (63) closing the receptacle (50), then perforating the billet by means of an axial mandrel (7), and finally replacing the ramming insert (63) in the axis of the receptacle (50) by an insert (65) holding a die. Drawing is carried out by extrusion of the billet. During ramming of the billet (4), a boss (41) is formed on the face of the latter turned towards the ramming insert (63) which is inscribed within an orifice (66) in the die and which has a plane face centered on an axis diverging from the drawing axis. The ramming insert (63) is provided for this purpose with an impression (8) which has recessed the desired shape.

  • Patent number: 4386513
Abstract: A method of reducing the cross-sectional area of one or more extruded wires as a combined effect of drawing and rolling, by passing the wires through reduction rollers driven at a peripheral speed which exceeds the greatest extrusion speed of any of the wires, thereby avoiding the formation of fins due to the passage of excess material between the rollers. Use of this method makes it unnecessary to track the rotation speed of the rollers with variations in the extrusion speeds.

  • Patent number: 4345450
Abstract: In an indirect extrusion drawing press comprising a fixed crosspiece to which is fixed a tubular ram which is perforated by an axial orifice for the removal of the wire, a fixed bearing member, a movable crosspiece which is moved by a main jack bearing against the bearing member, a container in which is provided the bore of the billet, and which is interposed between the movable crosspiece and the ram, and a container bottom which is placed on the movable crosspiece along the axis of extrusion and which presses against the container during extrusion, the container being driven towards the ram by the movable crosspiece. A mechanism is provided for fixing the container relative to the movable crosspiece during extrusion so that auxiliary jacks, provided for moving the container independently of the crosspiece, can be used during extrusion to assist the main jack.

  • Patent number: 4326399
Abstract: A press operated by the reverse method comprising a fixed tubular die casing defining a pressing axis, a main jack operative to displace a cross beam supported for displacement along the pressing axis, a displaceable holder disposed between the cross beam and the tubular die casing and having a bore disposed along the pressing axis for receiving a billet to be pressed. The bore has open ends and the holder is capable of fitting over the die casing by axial displacement thereof. A closure member is carried by a slide for closing one end of the bore in the holder; the slide is displaceable on the cross beam transversely with respect to the pressing axis. A support is slidably mounted parallel to the slide and is carried by an auxiliary cross beam which is slidably mounted on the main cross beam for movement parallel to the pressing axis. The support and the slide are simultaneously displaceable under the action of a jack or other suitable device.

  • Patent number: 4317352
Abstract: A cutting device for a direct extrusion press is intended to shear the residue remaining in the press cylinder after extrusion of the useful part of the billet to separate the residue from the extruded product. The device comprises a plane blade which is displaceable in a direction perpendicular to the extrusion axis between operative and inoperative positions and is guided in its displacement by guide means and displaced by drive means both of which are mounted on the slide block of the press.

  • Patent number: 4020668
Abstract: A draw press comprises a die-stock coupled to a slide movable perpendicularly to the axis of the press between two operational positions. In a first position, the die-stock is placed on the axis of the press, and in a second position the die-stock is spaced laterally from the axis in a changing device. The latter includes a table contiguous with a bed of the press and a movable carriage for supporting a replacement die-stock, spaced laterally from the axis of the press, and movable on the table in a direction parallel to the axis between a rest position and a position for coupling the replacement die-stock to the slide. The disengagement of the die-stock in position on the slide is caused by movement of the carriage from the rest position to the coupling position. The die-stock changing device includes means for sliding the disengaged die-stock along the carriage and means for fixing the die-stocks relative to the carriage.
