  • Publication number: 20130164347
Abstract: The invention relates to a customizable, solvent-free sustained release medical device for wound closure, wound healing, and the sustained release of an active. The device of the invention is composed of at least a polymeric carrier layer and optionally an oxidized regenerated cellulose layer(s). Polymeric barrier layers can be added to modify the release profile (burst, time of release, etc.) of the selected bioactive agent(s).

  • Patent number: 8042548
Abstract: A method for inducing Fallopian tube blockage as a means for female contraception comprises contacting the inner surface tissue of a Fallopian tube with a silver nitrate bearing substrate and delivering an amount of silver nitrate to the tissue sufficient to induce blockage of the Fallopian tube. At least one silver nitrate bearing bead is introduced through the uterine opening of the Fallopian tube by use of a catheter or other device suitable for manipulating the bead. Alternatively, a plurality of beads can be introduced into the Fallopian tube. In a preferred embodiment, one or more silver nitrate bearing beads are arranged on a string to facilitate later removal of the beads. The method of the present invention delivers an amount of silver nitrate to the tissue sufficient to cause tissue necrosis and blockage of the Fallopian tube.

  • Patent number: 7968656
Abstract: A semi-crystalline, absorbable copolyester composition comprising the reaction product of a polycondensation polyester and at least one lactone, wherein the polycondensation polyester comprises the reaction product of diglycolic acid and/or a derivative thereof and diethylene glycol; and the copolyester comprises about 30 to 60% by weight of the polycondensation polyester based on the total weight of the copolyester. Also medical devices such as absorbable sutures comprising such copolyesters and absorbable microspheres comprising such copolyesters and methods of making of such absorbable microspheres. Additionally, a method of melt blowing an absorbable copolyester composition and a nonwoven construct are disclosed.
