  • Patent number: 6825045
Abstract: A system and method for desorption and ionization of analytes in an ablation medium. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of preparing a sample having analytes in a medium including at least one component, freezing the sample at a sufficiently low temperature so that at least part of the sample has a phase transition, and irradiating the frozen sample with short-pulse radiation to cause medium ablation and desorption and ionization of the analytes. The method further includes the steps of selecting a resonant vibrational mode of at least one component of the medium and selecting an energy source tuned to emit radiation substantially at the wavelength of the selected resonant vibrational mode. The medium is an electrophoresis medium having polyacrylamide. In one embodiment, the energy source is a laser, where the laser can be a free electron laser tunable to generate short-pulse radiation. Alternatively, the laser can be a solid state laser tunable to generate short-pulse radiation.

  • Patent number: 6713394
Abstract: A planarization process for an integrated circuit structure which inhibits or prevents cracking of low k dielectric material which comprises one of one or more layers of dielectric material formed over raised portions of the underlying integrated circuit structure. Prior to the planarization step, a removable mask is formed over such one or more dielectric layers formed over raised portions of the integrated circuit structure. Openings are formed in the mask to expose a portion of the upper surface of the one or more dielectric layers in the region over at least some of these raised portions of the integrated circuit structure. Exposed portions of the underlying one or more dielectric layers are then etched through such openings in the mask to reduce the overall amount of the one or more dielectric layers overlying such raised portions of the integrated circuit structure.

  • Publication number: 20040042503
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data multiplexing is capable of high-speed operation with acceptable timing margins and has reduced sensitivity to supply voltage, temperature, manufacturing and other variations. One implementation relates to a data multiplexer that has no significant speed limitation associated with the clock-to-data delay of data latches, flip-flops, etc. In one implementation, clock-to-data delay is compensated for by introducing a delay-compensator in the clock line that drives a selector stage of the multiplexer. In one such implementation, a timing relationship is established between clock and data waveforms by timing the data waveforms with a first in-phase clock and operating the delay-compensated selector clock line with a second clock, which is delayed with respect to the first clock. The second clock can have a quadrature-phase delay with respect to the in-phase clock.

  • Patent number: 6626959
Abstract: Automatically formatting a spreadsheet pivot table using one of a plurality of predefined formats that include banded report formats and tabular report formats. The pivot table is reformatted automatically, based on a user selection of a predefined banded table or tabular format. Alternatively, the format of an original pivot table or a reformatted pivot table may be changed based on user choices made from a plurality of formatting dialogs. The automatically and modified formats include field emphasis, positioning of group totals, and insertion of blank lines. The predefined formats include a variety of different font styles, colors, backgrounds and borders. A reformatted pivot table has an enhanced appearance, while maintaining the full-functionality associated with a spreadsheet pivot table. The underlying format of a reformatted pivot table is maintained, allowing a user to move, add, or delete fields and add or remove calculated data without altering the overall format of the reformatted pivot table.

  • Patent number: 6356854
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining the position and classification of an object and which may provide signals that control deployment of an active restraint device, for example. Using a pulsed laser light beam from a laser source that is spread and preferably diffused to avoid ocular damage, an interference pattern is returned to a sensing module through a spectral filter. There it is optionally combined with a reference beam from the laser source, modified to emulate coherence length effects, and incident upon a phase transmission holographic template that may be segmented into regions for example. Each region of the holographic template contains Fourier transform images of occupant types. Behind the holographic template is a detector array that is sensitive to the laser light. An interference pattern derived from the object is convoluted or cross-correlated with the template. When an match occurs, a bright spot appears on the detector array.

  • Patent number: 5965280
Abstract: A PPV based electroluminescent device and method for constructing the same. The electroluminescent device is constructed on a substrate by depositing a layer of material having a PPV precursor and photoacid generator on the substrate. The substrate typically includes the anode for the device. The PPV precursor is converted to PPV in the presence of an acid. The photoacid generator produces an acid when exposed to electromagnetic radiation. Those portions of the layer that are not to contain electroluminescent elements are masked. The unmasked portion is then illuminated with electromagnetic radiation; and any unreacted PPV precursor is removed to provide a plurality of isolated PPV regions on the substrate. An electron transport layer is then deposited over the PPV regions and the cathode is deposited on top of the electron transport layer.

  • Patent number: 5758150
Abstract: A database synchronization system (10) is disclosed that synchronizes the content of a central database stored on a central computer (16) with one or more remote databases stored on one or more remote computers (18). A data extract and transfer application (20) is provided on each of the remote computers (18). A migrator application (26) processes the audit trail files (24) of the remote computer (18) to create a database of change (28). When the database of change (28) reaches a size threshold, the data extract and transfer application (20) shuts down the migrator application(26), processes the database of change (28), and restarts the migrator application (26) to begin the creation of another database of change. The data and information in the database of change are converted into a series of flat files (48) that are transferred over a communications line (14) from each of the remote computers (18) to the central computer (16).
