  • Patent number: 7309175
Abstract: Method and apparatus for mounting an optical fiber for coupling to a high power light source, the fiber being secured to its mount with a low refractive index adhesive. The low refractive index adhesive serves to reduce the coupling of light traveling within the fiber to the fiber mount, thereby reducing undesirable, potentially destructive heating in the fiber mount. The adhesive preferably comprises sol gel.

  • Publication number: 20070098332
Abstract: An inexpensive TO- or MO-series package is used to house an optical device, such as a laser, by forming an opening in a side of a package, providing an optical fiber within the opening, and coupling the optical device to the fiber. The package is preferably a TO-258 or some other similar metal package.

  • Patent number: 4644552
Abstract: A semiconductive laser comprises an active layer made in the shape of a crescent moon with the distribution of refractive index approximated by a quadratic curve. InGaAsP layers with a refractive index smaller than that of the active layer are disposed on both sides of the active layer.

  • Patent number: 4325070
Abstract: A recording head for use in a facsimile communication system comprises a plurality of recording elements each having an effective recording area surrounded by an ineffective area. The recording elements are arranged on a plane in a step-like configuration in which the elements are displaced both longitudinally and transversely with respect to another such that there is a spacing between the effective areas of the recording elements in the longitudinal direction and there is no spacing between them in the transverse direction. The recording head is so oriented that the longitudinal direction corresponds to the direction of line scan.
