  • Patent number: 5546208
Abstract: A liquid crystal electrooptical device having: a pair of light-transmitting substrates assembled in such a manner that their surfaces having an electrode thereon may face against each other; a liquid crystal material charged between said pair of substrates; and an orienting means on the inner surface of at least one of the substrates to obtain one-direction oriented liquid crystal; thereby allowing the uncured resin to precipitate inside said liquid crystal material and allowing it to solidify into a column to adhere said orienting means or said substrate with the cured resin. A process for fabricating the same device is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5539545
Abstract: A liquid crystal display using a hydrophobic material as the material of resinous columns to orient the molecules of the liquid crystal parallel to the substrates. A hydrophilic material can also be used as the material of resinous columns to orient the molecules of the liquid crystal vertical to the substrates. The liquid crystal molecules are oriented horizontally by making the surface tension of the orientation film greater than the surface tension of the resinous columns. The liquid crystal molecules are oriented vertically by making the surface tension of the orientation film smaller than the surface tension of the resinous columns. A mixture of a liquid crystal material and an uncured resin is placed in a liquid crystal cell. The uncured resin is precipitated (deposited) out of the mixture. The molecules of the liquid crystal material are oriented. Then, the uncured resin is cured. Thereafter, an aging step for reorienting the molecules of the liquid crystal material is carried out.

  • Patent number: 5525273
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of fabricating a dispersion-type liquid crystal electro-optical device comprising a pair of substrates disposed opposite to each other with a space therebetween and provided with electrodes respectively on their inner surfaces, and a liquid crystal mixture containing a liquid crystal and a transparent resin and sandwiched between the pair of substrates. The method comprises steps of: filling up the space between the pair of substrates with the fluid liquid crystal mixture, applying a voltage across the electrodes to apply an electric field to the fluid liquid crystal mixture to collect the charge of the fluid liquid crystal mixture in the vicinity of the electrodes; and setting the transparent resin. The dispersion-type liquid crystal electro-optical device has a high voltage retention and a low transmissivity in the scattering state, and is capable of clearly displaying pictures at a high contrast ratio.

  • Patent number: 5357356
Abstract: A process for fabricating a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal electro-optical device, which comprises: placing a mixture of a liquid crystal material having anisotropy in refractive index and a photocurable resin on a substrate equipped with an electrode; and curing the resin by irradiating a light to said mixture; wherein, said light has such a wavelength distribution that it covers the peak of light absorption of the portion which undergoes photo-curing reaction in said photocurable resin, provided that 90% or more of said light is distributed within a wavelength range .+-.20 nm from the wavelength of said light absorption peak of the resin.

  • Patent number: 4282415
Abstract: A rotary pulse switch for digital tuners or the like comprises a rotor which is provided with a plurality of protrusions spaced at equal intervals on the peripheral edge of one surface thereof and to which an operation rod is fixed. A housing receives the rotor in a rotatable manner and contact members are respectively disposed at right and left ends within the housing. A member slidable rightwards and leftwards is held midway between both the contact members. By rotating the operation rod a predetermined angle clockwise or counterclockwise, the protrusion of the rotor moves the slidable member rightwards or leftwards so as to be able to turn the contact member "on" repeatedly at the right or left end.
