Patent number: 8167341Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention is a latch device having a latch and a base portion, where the latch is selectively connected to the base portion, and pivotable about the base portion along a first axis. The present invention also includes a cam mechanism for securing the latch such that the latch is secured for rotation and support of a door for a vehicle along a second axis when the door is rotated about a first axis but allows free movement of the latch when the door is actuated for rotation about a second axis.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2007Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Magna International Inc.Inventors: Herbert Gruber, Miguel Waldner

Patent number: 7654599Abstract: An extender device having a base frame with two ends. There is at least one extendable arm that extends from one of the ends of the base frame that allows the bed extender to move from a retracted to an extended position. The length of the bed extender can be set by a locking mechanism located on the base frame that can be used to lock the extendable arm in position. The bed extender can be used to divide a storage compartment or it can be used to extend the length of the pick-up truck bed by using the extendable arms and a pivot mechanism connected to the extendable arms.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2007Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: Magna International Inc.Inventors: Brad Stewart, Miguel Waldner, Christopher T. Archutowski

Patent number: 7556303Abstract: A latch transfer mechanism is provided, including a tailgate having a first handle and a second handle, a lifter connected to a housing, a striker for selectively receiving a cable transfer pin, with the cable transfer pin operably associated with the lifter, and a connector connected to the cable transfer pin, which is also connected to the tailgate. The present invention also includes an actuating rod for actuating the lifter such that when the first handle is actuated, the housing, lifter, and actuating rod, will separate from the striker, and the cable transfer pin will remain received by the striker, allowing the connector to support the tailgate. When the second handle is actuated, the actuating rod will cause the lifter to pivot in relation to the housing, lifting the cable transfer pin out of the striker, allowing the lifter, actuating rod, and cable transfer pin to separate from the striker.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2007Date of Patent: July 7, 2009Assignee: Magna International Inc.Inventors: Miguel Waldner, Christopher T. Archutowski, Brad Stewart, Herbert Gruber

Patent number: 7547056Abstract: The present invention is a swing and fold down tailgate mechanism which includes an inner panel, a first handle supported by the inner panel operably associated with a first latch and a second latch, a second handle supported by the inner panel operably associated with the first handle and a third latch. The present invention also includes a hinge member operably associated with the first handle and the second handle for providing hinged support of the tailgate such that the tailgate pivots in a drop down direction and alternatively in a swing open direction. When the first handle is actuated, the first and second latch will release and the second handle will be deactivated, allowing the tailgate to pivot using the third latch and hinge. When the second handle is actuated, the second and latch will release and the first handle will be deactivated, allowing the tailgate to pivot about the first latch and hinge.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2007Date of Patent: June 16, 2009Assignee: Magna InternationalInventors: Miguel Waldner, Herbert Gruber, Rich Boatright

Publication number: 20070236035Abstract: A bed extender, having a base frame made of a hollow portion, a first open end, and a second open end. The bed extender also includes a first extending frame received by the first open end of the base frame, and a second extending frame received by the second open end of the base frame. The first extending frame and the second extending frame can either extend or retract into the hollow portion of the base frame, and when the first extending frame and the second extending frame are in an extended position, the bed extender will divide the bed of a pickup into two sections, or extend the overall length of the pickup bed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2007Publication date: October 11, 2007Inventor: Miguel WALDNER
