  • Patent number: 8174994
Abstract: A data processing mechanism is disclosed for selection of a communication interface for a communication device from a plurality of communication interfaces provided by a communication system. The mechanism comprises a first controller entity for executing a first selection routine for considering at least one first policy on communication via the communication system, and a second controller entity for executing a second selection routine for considering at least one second policy on communication via the communication system. The at least one second policy is related to a different aspect of communication than the at least one first policy. The data processing mechanism is configured to select the communication interface based on outputs of the first selection routine and the second selection routine.

  • Patent number: 7320029
Abstract: The invention relates to a device, system and method a method for applying a certain Quality of Service (QoS) to a data stream (31a–31c, 32a–32b, 33a) of an application (31–33) communicating data over a sockets connection. The method comprises providing a uniquely identifiable identifier (UID, Stream Type) the application (31–33) or to the data stream (31a–31c, 32a–32b, 33a) from or to the application, and associating said identifier (UID, Stream Type) with a particular QoS in order to apply the particular QoS to the particular application (31–33) or to the particular data stream (31a–31c, 32a–32b, 33a), which application or data stream is identified by the identifier.

  • Publication number: 20070064649
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and software product are presented for managing data flow via connections between a mobile terminal and a destination internet protocol network. A plurality of sets of connection parameters are accessed by a mobile terminal, each of the sets including at least one parameter for an access point, at least one parameter for an access network, and at least one parameter for a destination network. The connection for part of the data flow is then automatically selected and utilized based upon the triplet sets of connection parameters.

  • Patent number: 6961780
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of managing a suspend state of a packet-switched service in a system which comprises a terminal (MS) and another peer (12), there being a packet-switched connection between the terminal and the other peer over which the terminal and the other peer transmit packets to each other. The terminal (MS) is able to use only either a circuit-switched service or a packet-switched service at the same time. When the terminal (MS) switches to the suspend state in the packet-switched service to use a circuit-switched service, a predetermined first packet (31) is transmitted from the terminal (MS) to the other peer (12) to prevent transmission of packets from the other peer (12) to said terminal (MS) during the suspend state. The invention also relates to a terminal and software.
