  • Patent number: 6682632
Abstract: The invention relates to a roll for a paper or board machine comprising axle journals on whose support the roll is arranged to revolve, end flanges with which the axle journals are connected, and a mantle which is connected with the end flanges. The mantle is provided with a number of openings extending through the mantle and/or recesses formed into the outer surface of the mantle, which openings and/or recesses form a regular pattern. Solid connecting portions in the outer surface of the mantle around said openings and/or recesses are opened so that, from each opening and/or recess, there is a connection, provided in the form of a groove or an additional recess extending into the outer surface of the roll mantle, with at least each of the openings and/or recesses adjacent to it.

  • Patent number: 6533900
Abstract: A method in a paper machine for transferring a paper web from a wet wire in a former section to a pick-up fabric or an equivalent transfer fabric of a press section, including the steps of forming a pick-up point on the wet wire and separating an edge strip from at least one edge of the web prior to the pick-up point by means of at least one cutting device. The method further includes separating the web from the wet wire and passing the web onto the pick-up fabric at the pick-up point. The method also includes applying a pressure difference to the at least one edge strip through the wet wire or the pick-up fabric at or after the pick-up point to cause the at least one edge strip to either follow the wet wire or become separated from the pick-up fabric after the pick-up point and to be placed in a broke system arranged beneath the paper machine.

  • Patent number: 6471827
Abstract: A sample collecting device takes samples from the white water drained from the web through the wire in the wire part, at a number of points in the cross direction of the web. An analyzer analyses the samples and forms a retention profile for controlling the paper machine. The device for measurement and regulation of the retention profile comprises means for measurement of the retention profile across the web width from different points of width of the web. The headbox comprises ducts passing to different points of width of the headbox to pass a flow of liquid containing a retention agent in the headbox into connection with the stock flow to regulate the retention profile across the web width. The ducts have valves which are regulated on the basis of the retention profile data for regulating the retention agent into duct flow.

  • Patent number: 6254731
Abstract: A steam box including a steam chamber for blowing steam toward a paper or board web that runs on support of a wire and a suction zone arranged at the trailing side of the steam chamber of the steam box for providing suction of steam mist discharged by the steam chamber. The suction zone extends to sides of the steam chamber so as to extend to the lateral areas of the web. The steam box includes edge cutter devices arranged in the area of effect of the suction zone extending to the lateral areas of the web, so as to remove the fibers and fillers produced during the edge cutting and prevent soiling of the edges of the steam box.

  • Patent number: 6132559
Abstract: A method and device for dewatering a paper or board web and passing the web as a closed draw from a lower wire of a web forming section, in which the web is formed between the lower wire and an upper wire, to the press section and through one or more dewatering press nips in the press section. The web is separated from the upper wire on a first suction zone or block of the suction roll, after which the web is affixed to the lower wire over a second suction zone or block of the suction roll. The web is then affixed, in a pre-press and transfer nip formed by the suction roll and a smooth-faced roll, onto the outer face of a substantially non-watering-receiving transfer belt, the web being passed on support of this belt into the first press nip. In the press nip, water is pressed out of the web into a water-receiving press felt.
