  • Patent number: 10642327
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a housing surrounding an interior portion of the electronic device. The housing may have one or more layers of material such as fabric layers, polymer layers, and metal layers. An outer fabric layer may have openings between adjacent strands of material such as openings between adjacent warp and weft strands. An inner housing layer such as a layer of plastic or metal may have openings that define airflow entrance and exit ports. The outer fabric layer may overlap the openings of the airflow entrance and exit ports. A fan may draw cooling air into the interior through the airflow entrance port and may expel air through the airflow exit port. An airflow controller in the interior may be controlled by control circuitry based on measurements from temperature sensors. The airflow controller may steer airflow to cool appropriate electronic components in the interior.

  • Patent number: 10635141
Abstract: Cable assemblies for providing electrical communication between hinged sections of an electronic device are described. The cable assemblies can include a cover that covers one or more cables that run through a hinge region of the electronic device. The cable and cover can be drawn over a mandrel of the hinge region. The cover and the portions of the mandrel can be visible to a user at the hinge region of the electronic device. The cover can be sufficiently rigid to guide a path of the cable and protect the cable from bending beyond a prescribed angle during rotation of the electronic device at the hinge region. The cover can also be sufficiently rigid to prevent ceasing or folding of the cover and the cable during rotation of the electronic device at the hinge region. The cable assemblies can also include a hinged cover that can be pivoted to close a gap between two hinged sections of the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 10578559
Abstract: An electronic device having an indication member for determining liquid exposure in an electronic device is disclosed. The indication member may include ink and a layer covering the ink. The layer may include a liquid-permeable layer that allows liquid to pass through the layer and contact the ink. In this regard, at least some of the ink may rise through the layer and to a top surface of the indication member. Although the ink may be exposed at the top surface, in some cases, the ink is visible or detectable when exposed to light from an ultraviolet light source. Also, the top surface may include a pattern or other indicia that is also visible or detectable when exposed to the light source. When the indication member is exposed to liquid, the pattern may be altered or disturbed in a location corresponding to an exposed portion of the indication member.

  • Patent number: 10237660
Abstract: An electronic device including a frame member suitable for use with an audio driver is disclosed. The frame member may include a recessed region that receives the audio driver. The frame member may further include a flange member surrounding the recessed region. The frame member may be formed from a material having a relatively high coefficient of thermal conductivity. • Patent number: 10185354
Abstract: A capacitive touch opening system can be used with a portable electronic device having rotationally coupled components, such as a laptop computer having a display component that opens from a base component. A first magnet in a first device component (e.g., display) can be located proximate a second magnet in a second device component (e.g., base) when the display is in a closed position relative to the base. A sensor on the portable electronic device can detect a sensed event, whereupon the display is rotated automatically to an open position relative to the base using a repulsion force between the magnets. The sensor can be a capacitive touch sensor on the device housing, and may be the entire display housing. One of the magnets can be an electromagnet that may change its magnetic field. An attraction force between the magnets can exist when no sensed event is taking place.
