  • Patent number: 9366097
Abstract: A power tong having a self-contained hydraulic power system within its rotating body converts mechanical energy from at least one mechanical link to hydraulic energy within the self-contained hydraulic power system. Energy applied from the non-rotating portion of the power tong is transferred to the mechanical link that links the fixed portion with the rotating portion of the power tong thus removing the need for rotary seals. The mechanical energy transferred to the self-contained hydraulic power system within the rotating body is used to extend and retract one or more grippers in contact with, for example, a tubular of well equipment drill strings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 25, 2013
Date of Patent: June 14, 2016
    Assignee: HONGHUA AMERICA, LLC
Inventors: Guo Qiang George Hu, Milan Cerovsek, Richie Paez

  • Patent number: 7832487
Abstract: A stabbing guide connects to a casing collar during makeup. The stabbing guide has a housing with a lower portion with a cylindrical interior and an upper portion with a conical interior. Upper and lower shoulders are located in the cylindrical interior, defining an annular recess between the shoulders. Each of the shoulders has an inner diameter smaller than an outer diameter of the casing collar. The housing is formed in separate segments and secured around the casing collar by a clamp.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 1, 2008
Date of Patent: November 16, 2010
    Assignee: Tesco Corporation
Inventors: Kenneth C. Jensen, Radovan Tepavac, Milan Cerovsek
  • Patent number: 7681649
Abstract: A slip assembly for gripping pipe during well drilling operations has a housing with a hole for receiving a section of pipe. Pockets in the housing are spaced circumferentially around the hole. Each of the pockets has side walls that face toward each other and are connected to each other by a back wall that has at least one ramp surface. A slip segment is located in each pocket, each slip segment having side edges that engage the side walls of one of the pockets. Each slip segment has a back side with a ramp surface that engages the ramp surface on the back wall of the pocket. Each of the slip segments is movable within its pocket from an upper outward position to a lower inward position in gripping engagement with the pipe.
