  • Publication number: 20190016660
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing an alkylsalicylic acid. The process comprises reacting salicylic acid with an olefin having at least four carbon atoms at a temperature ranging from about 50° C. to about 200° C. in the presence of an arylsulfonic acid-containing catalyst (such as para-toluene sulfonic acid), to produce an alkylsalicylic acid. The resulting alkylsalicylic acid has various applications such as a food preservative, an oil field chemical for oil recovery, and a component in a color toner agent for electrophotography.

  • Patent number: 9932436
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for improving the stability of a base-modified alkylphenol-aldehyde resin (such as an amine-modified alkylphenol-aldehyde resin). The process comprises the step of reacting a base-modified alkylphenol-aldehyde resin with a salicylic acid to stabilize the base-modified alkylphenol-aldehyde resin. The invention also relates to a modified alkylphenol-aldehyde resin formed from the stabilizing process, and its use in a tackifier composition and rubber composition.

  • Patent number: 9890295
Abstract: This invention relates to a resin preparable by reaction of a phenol/formaldehyde novolak with tetraethyl orthosilicate in a mass ratio above 28:1, wherein the phenol of the phenol/formaldehyde novolak is substituted or unsubstituted hydroxybenzene or a mixture of two or more such phenols, and to a particulate material coated with said resin. Said particles can be used e.g. in the shell molding process for the production of shell molds and shell cores; and as proppants for use in the hydraulic fracturing process.

  • Patent number: 7772345
Abstract: The invention is related to a hydrocarbylphenol-formaldehyde linear novolak resin modified with a vinyl monomer. A modified, hydrocarbylphenol-formaldehyde linear novolak resin of the invention is prepared by reacting a hydrocarbyl phenol-formaldehyde linear novolak resin with a vinyl monomer in the presence of an acid catalyst. The invention also relates to a rubber compositions with improved tack comprising a rubber or mixture of rubbers, and the modified, hydrocarbylphenol-formaldehyde linear novolak resin.
